Slide problem

I have a 2008 Fleetwood Jamboree 31K class C motorhome. The switches to both slides click when pressed, with the unit being either plugged in or unplugged to park electrical, but the slides don’t move. This has happened before but has fixed itself, usually while driving. I am stuck 1200 miles from home, on a holiday weekend with the slides out. Any help would be appreciated.

Dead battery. Generally speaking trying to run a high amp item on the converter only does not work.

Thanks. Is it the chassis battery or the house batteries?

Have you tried it with the chassis engine running? Sometimes the alternator current hitting the battery will be enough to power the slides. Usually parking brake must be set also.

^^^^^^ What Winterbagoal and bearaboo say. ^^^^^^

Most all Class C's nowadays use the coach batteries to power the slide motors. The coach batteries in "almost" all Class C's also power the generator 12v ckts (as in controls and generator starter motor power) SOoooo..... if your genny cranks/starts OK (mine draws about 57 amps steady state) you likely have OK coach batteries and a good ground. Be a good test.

Since, when the problem previously occurred, it was solved by driving ..... it could be that the engine alternator is doing a yeoman's job of charging your coach batteries enroute, but your converter isn't doing its job so well when parked. Just a possibility.

Good luck with the fix, and safe travels.

Why wouldn't you try now to see if it works? I sure wouldn't wait til morning and then have panic set in if it didn't work.

Even if it doesn't work, I'm sure there is a procedure for manually pulling the slides in. Look in your owner's manual and see. Oh, make sure your emergency brake is engaged...

My slides are locked out when engine ON by IGN controlled relays, so if coach battery the issue, (might) have to run engine 30-45-min, shut off, then try slide?

From the 2008 Fleetwood Jamboree Owner's Manual, on page 06-4, which can be downloaded from their website.

"
SLIDE-OUT ROOMS (If Equipped)
Your new motor home may be equipped with an
optional slide-out room. The slide-out room(s)
are designed to provide additional living space.
A detailed operating and maintenance guide is
included in your Owner's Information Package.
Read all instructions for these systems carefully
before operating the slide-outs.
In some installations it may be necessary to
slide the driver's seat to the full forward position
and place the seat back in the full upright position
prior to moving the slide-out room in or out
to prevent the room from striking or rubbing
against the seat back.
Always exercise caution when operating the
slide-out room.
• Always be certain that there is plenty of
clearance for your room to safely extend to
the full outward position.
• Remove any other potential obstructions to
room movement.
For operation of the slide-out room the following
is required:
• Park the RV and level it for stationary use.

• Ignition on (engine running)
• Transmission in park
• Parking brake engaged
• Slide-out key or switch activated

.II NOTE I
Under wetlsnow weather conditions, after retracting
the slide·out room(s), it may be necessary to towel off
moisture from the end walls.
CAUTION
Never attempt to move your motor home with the
slide·out room(s) extended. Damage can occur to the
slide·out or motor home.
CAUTION
In case of a power failure, the slide·out room can be
retracted manually. Be sure to understand the operation
section as explained in the slide-out systems
Operations Manual in the Owner's Information
Package.

1) Check coach battery w/ the BATTERY STATUS TEST Button? You might run engine or GEN a 1/2-hr to 1-hour to charge battery, then operate slide? 2) Some slides can retract manually with a hand-crank handle connecting it to a shaft near the motor? (Some you may need to release a motor BRAKE first?) ((Some) you might be able to retract w/ a cordless drill and adapter? Check your manual? Usually, best learned in your driveway at home?
