What kind of toilet? Usually if the flush valve is not closing, that would allow the water to continue to run.

It would help to know the brand and model of the toilet.

But as a general rule, you replace the toilet flush valve.

On a Dometic it's a pretty easy fix. Can be done with a screwdriver and a pair of pliers. From the outside without taking the toilet apart.

On a Thetford, its a little more work, as the valve is connected via a cable to the foot pedal. But still pretty easy.

I might be a preventative maintenance nut. When I start having trouble I replace the valves, the vacuum breaker, the ball, and seals.

Might come from living with a water valve on one that would not shut off and overflowed, (it had been sticking, you know one of those "I'll get to it" problems. And another one that the foot pedal and cable got hard to press and when it finally broke the ball was shut and you couldn't flush (luckily it was empty. Would be a bad deal if number 2 was in there)
