Towing Capabilites
I am in the Market for a Class C & I need tow a 5500 lb jeep. ( been weighed ) My question is for those of you that have the newer E-450 chassis & Triton 6.8L, & 7500 lb hitch - How well do they tow this amount of weight ? is it a struggle ? I have seen most with a tongue weigh of 500 lb. & the Jayco has 750 tongue. thanks for the input .

sounds like you need more of a 'Super C' class, some have 20,000lb hitches, or more...
mostly the diesels, of course.
with the stated weight of your toad, I would say that very few ClassC coaches can handle that weight properly, due to the overall GVCWR of the vehicle's chassis limit, including the 'stuff' and people you are carrying(fuel and water, as well)...
the Hitch's weight limit is it's Maximum towing capability, but the combination of the vehicle's chassis rating, weight of the contents, and the weight of the toad determine what the RV can really tow, which is usually much less.

Sierrajk, we pull a 4500lb toad on a 600lb electric brake dolly behind a 2017 SunSeeker 3010DS with the 6.8L, 6 speed transmission and it does just fine with 10k miles on it so far. We pulled onto the scales last year, fully provisioned during a trip, full gas tank, minimal in the other three tanks and weighed 19,300. Forest River gives this unit a 22000 GCWR.

thank you all, we have decided to go with a Class A, and not just for the towing, but also the better ride. Super C would be nice, but the cost kills that idea.

Just be aware that the 7,500# tow rating of those class Cs, is more than the 4,000# tow rating of many class A's.

You are right;
Yeah my 2014 Class A FR3 had a tow rating of 5,000 lbs and my new 2017 Class C Outlaw has a tow rating of 7,500.
