Dead bolt in not engaged and I can push latch out of way but door remains "locked shut" I can't see what is holding it shut. I have not decided whether to replace with another crap Trimark of go Bauer EM which seems to be the only two options. Thanks in advance for any help.

Can you elaborate more on what part you found broken? The rotor (the part that rotates around the door jamb post) is released by a rod that is held by a locknut. If you got the back plate removed, you will see that it still attached. Pull the handle towards the hinged side of the door, and it should release the rotor. Once it releases and you are able to open the door, you will see a black plastic tab on the door edge that needs to be removed and then you will see the lock nut that needs to be removed to get the backplate completely off. You will need a thin walled 7/16 socket to get the nut off. Good luck.
