Upgrading Trailer Wiring - Fourwinds

I recently bought a FourWinds Chateau 31F Motorhome on a Ford E450 Chassiss. Since it is a 2007 I have found I need to update quite a bit. I want to be able to tow a small trailer and also a Honda CRV(not at the same time). I noticed that the only wiring near the hitch is a flat 4. If I tow a trailer that has its own brakes I will need a 7 pin wiring outlet and a trailer brake controller. I am surprised that this vehicle was not prewired for a trailer brake up front under that dash and 7 pin in the back.
Anyone upgrade theirs? Am I missing something?

jlwardn-

Ford provided the wiring for a 7-pin connector on the back, and a brake controller in the front. It sounds as if Thor did not take advantage of that.

As always, with an older coach if you are not the original owner, it's possible prior owners have made their own modifications to the wiring.

It'll be up to you to dig out the connector under the dash (no splicing required), and to extend the wires in the rear to a new 7-pin connector (splicing required). Are you up for that?

I recently had the same issue with our 2007 Holiday Rambler on a 2006 E450 chassis.....just 4 wires to the back and a 4-flat. I found the factory connectors for the seven wire trailer wiring above the fuel tank and above the left frame rail. If I remember correctly, they were 2 round connectors (one black with 3 wires and one brown with 4 wires). The wires were blunt cut about 8" after the connectors and taped back into the harness. I bought a 7 wire trailer connector pre-wired with a 10' lead and it worked out very nice. Up front, I just bought a trailer brake controller and connector to plug into the factory brake controller harness located in the firewall/kickpanel area near the parking brake. Hope this helps!
