I have recently had to downsize from Class A Diesel Pusher to a Class C. We are looking forward to the new ride and have a question.
I have a dogbone adapter going from 50 amps to 30 amps. Is it okay to plug into the the 50 amp pedestal using my adapter. Obviously, my Class C only uses the 30 amps.
My objective is to avoid any loss of voltage in a 30 amp pedestal, as sometimes seen in older RV Parks.

Yes, it is perfectly fine to do such. It is wise of 30A campers to carry such an adapter for those occasional times when only a 50A source is available.

Yes. Used one when we had a 30 amp trailer and was at a park that only had a 50 amp receptacle. Used a 30 to 50 when powering our current 50 amp motorhome from a 30 amp receptacle.

I do it all the time. No problem. I use a Progessive 50 amp surge protector, too.

Many CG power pedestal 30A receptacles are badly worn
So having the 50A to 30A adapter is good option to have on hand

Remember that while using that 50A adapter only one hot leg is used for the 30A side and it has capacity of 50A thru adapter and thru your power cord up to your Main AC Panel
BUT your Main AC Panel 30A CB will protect everything downstream in your RV plus the Individual Branch CBs

Thank you for all the replies.
After I posted my question, I found an exhaustive discussion of this topic in an older thread.
In the future I will not hesitate to use the adapter and plug into the 50 amp outlet.
I always use a portable Progressive Surge Protector. With the new rig I have purchased a new 30 amp Surge Protector.

Not sure how much it will help with voltage drop.

If the pedestal has a 30 and 50 amp outlet, they aren't running seperate lines to each outlet. Its just a tap off one leg of the 50 amp service for the 30 amp outlet. If the voltage is low on the 30 amp outlet, its low on the 50 amp outlet.

I do agree that using the 50 amp outlet helps because they are usually in better condition.

I've camped at the Kentucky Horse park in July, nice place. Their 30 amp service was experiencing low voltage. The park management was recommending folks use an adapter to connect to the 50 amp. I did and the low voltage issue disappeared. It may have been that the adapter pulled from the 50 amp side NOT connected to the 30 amp outlet....

be sure you have EMS and not just Surge Protector.
