Water pressure regulator
I was wondering is it common practice to install the water regulator upon first hookup to camp water, or do you hookup first and test to see if a regulator is needed? Or hookup with the regulator and if the pressure seems low, remove it? Thanks. Also wondering if there are regulators with varying psi but I can google that I suppose.

I put a regulator on every camp hookup. It's a watts type regulator and if the pressure is below the set level it doesn't affect flow. If the pressure is higher then it regulates it.

I too use the Watts regulator. It has a guage to tell me the pressure. Of course static pressure isn't the whole story. In some CGs the pressure drops off depending on how much flow is being used.

You never want to hook up to campground water without a regulator of some kind. Some have extremely high pressure that can damage your RVs piping. I simply would not take the chance of damage to the RV.
An alternative that we do is to never use campground water directly. We fill up our water tank and use the pump regardless of whether the campsite has water connection or not. That also helps manage gray and black tank levels when there’s no sewer hookup.

I have a cheapo regulator that I leave attached to the hose I use for the black tank flush - sure don’t want to blow up the black tank flush plumbing with high pressures!

We've been using a Renator regulator for a couple of seasons now, and it works very well for the price. There are similar looking units for less money, but we decide not to take a chance. You get what you pay for.....most of the time.

I wanted a brass regulator with gauge but didn't think I needed to go with the more expensive watts brand. Bought one similar to this one from Amazon. Fully adjustable and has worked fine for over 4 years now.

I do use a regulator though it is just a brass piece that is installed between the camp water faucet and my hose (along with the filter).
