What is it?
(Still ,trying to figure out how to attach a photo)
I have this weird little display, appears to be add-on, on the dash of my 2006 Gulf Steam BT Cruiser. It displays some numbers, some red fields, and it beeps sometimes, But I have no idea what it is for, despite numerous searches. I have seen it in some photos of other BT Cruisers. Any body have any ideas?
Thanks.

Doesn't have the typical layout but could it be the display for the TPMS?

It resembles an aid for when backing up.

What does it plug into?
The 8.8 displayed could be current fuel mileage if it's plugged into the OBD2 plug.

I believe we have a winner! A 2009 model for sale described it as "BACKUP PROXIMITY ALARM"
The OPs appears to be upside down maybe...?

No TPMS on tires.
An aide for backing up? (my first guess)
Seat heater? (that would be nice. But no controls)
Brake controller? (Again, no switches)
Plug into? (goes into and under dash, I don't fit there) (and no display while driving)
"Back up proximity alarm" (probably it, but would love to know how it's supposed to work)
Thanks to each of you for your excellent help. Was sure I could find the answer here.
Again, thanks to all.

Go back to the rear bumper and look for at least one added on backup sensor. On factory automotive sensors they appear to be dime-sized disks in the bumper. The sensors can be painted to match. Paint doesn't affect their sensitivity.

No display while driving, but what about in reverse?
If it were plugged into the ODB2 plug, you'd be able to see it, so nix my suggestion
A backup sensor is the most logical, and the display seems to indicate that.

getting close
Three more pix and a little more information.
There is (are) a dime size disk, between the tail lights, each side.
When I put it in reverse, the lights (on the display) come on, flash back and forth, and it emits a beep. I'm parked on a slope, uphill to the front.
Again, thanks to all.

finally
Well, I've spent way too much time on this thing, but think I finally found the info I was looking for. Headed over to the Gulf Stream forums, and found that it is a backup distance indicator, used mostly on '05's and '06's, in conjunction with the back up camera (embedded in the visor), and shows the distance (the digital display) in feet to the object you're going to back into.
Might know a little more after I take it out again, and get to experiment with it.
Once again, thanks to all who helped.

(Also, remounted it, right side up)

It's to let you know when the flux capacitor kicks in. 88 mph, if I remember correctly from the movie...
