My 2 cents FWIW -
What do you plan on doing with your MH? Do you want to visit State & National Parks or are you RV resort/campground folks? If you're going to park it in a resort or private CG, a Class A may suit you better. If you want to go to out of the way State and National Parks which may not have the capacity/accessibility for larger and taller rigs, the Class C may be the way to go.
We bought ours with the intention of exploring out of the way parks, we have no kids, and don't need a ton of space and lots of bells and whistles. I have no doubt that someday we'll buy a Class A when we just want to settle down and relax rather than explore.

I've really appreciate all the advice and I hadn't even thought of renting a car if we need it. Keep the advice coming! I imagine we'll be camping in RV parks mostly but don't want to limit our options incase we need to save money and do campgrounds or state parks. We may be living in our RV for several months while we figure out what to do when we get to Florida or we may like being able to travel and explore for a while as there is so much to see and do on the east coast. I suppose it will come down to how livable our situation is.

last august I decided to upgrade from my old monaco 22ft class c to a 26.5 lazydaze ,a major improvement in build quality. Although It does not have slides the floorplan is setup as such I don't need them. Living in oregon material quality was a big issue to me after seeing some of the other manufacturers use of roof material , most motorhomes leak in the 6-8year range . This brand with its aluminum construction ,thats not an issue. and because of the type of people that purchase this brand ,they come with just about every option under the sun. They do sell for more but once you compare the build quality you see why. Just something to think about

We started with a Class C and as you were a family of five. Had no slideouts for the extra room but we managed. Served us well and we had many fine trips with it. Try renting one first and see how it works out for you. You can then possibly rent a Class A and make a better decision from the two experiences. Hope this helps a bit.

I am a newbie but my only word of advice would be on the slides.
I have been in both and have to agree a slide allows so much more space to spread out.
When we tailgate we leave the slide in. Everything is still 100% usable and spacious.
But when we take those same people camping they cannot believe how much more room there is with the slide out. Enough for an inflatable twin sized mattress.
