Been to Custer SP many times. Iv never heard of any WC stuff, but I've never inq'd of it. Neat place tho. Small town of Keystone close. Deadwpood and Rapid City both about 35 min away. Roads are good but snow this time of year. Tons of wildlife.

Custer State Park
Hi Ray/Wendy. I'm new to the forum so just found your qwery. We found CSP 12 years ago while driving around America. The staff convinced us to come back next year as volunteers, and we did for 3 seasons. No pay, but full hookups/50 amps and work 3 days a week.
We were in the visitors' centers and absolutely loved it, to the point we bought a home in Custer and settled there.

We worked in the store at Sylvan Lake back in '03. At that time we god paid plus a site and a season end bonus. We had a good time, plenty of time off to sight see. There is a new concessionaire and things have changed a lot.
I would not work for site only as the sites aren't that good

We have worked two seasons at Custer. There are volunteer positions - free site and hookups for X number of hours per week. Camp hosts etc. There are paid positions - gate attendants, maintenance, toilet crews, visitor center workers etc. Site in the park at employee campgrounds or park campgrounds or in a dorm. You have to pay for a site. They hire a lot of students, especially SD college students to work the toilet crews and gates.
The Mickleson Trail employees stayed in the park , when were there a few years back.
It is sorta hard to get on there but worth the effort to try. When you apply for a volunteer position in SD you will get offers from all over the state - some really neat places and jobs other than Custer.
