Full Hook Up RV Spot in Bend, OR - in Exchange for Horse Rescue Feeder.

We are a horse rescue that currently has 18 horses that are under our care.
In exchange for the space at the RV park the duties of the ranch hand will be:

Feeding the horses at specific times in the morning and in the evening, 5 days a week.
Filling water troughs morning and evening as needed.
Mucking the 4 small med pens when occupied by a horse.

We keep a detailed feed chart for the horses, so once trained you will always have that information to reference and training is provided.

The RV space is located adjacent to the ranch at Sundance Meadows and the feeder has access to their amenities. Downtown Bend is about a 20 minute drive away.
Please note that this is a 4 month minimum position and will start July 1 2020

Horse experience a plus. Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
Must be able to pass a background check. No drinking, smoking, vaping, or drugs allowed on the ranch property.
Sundanceís policy is that through the month of September, for every 30 day stay the feeder must go to their (or off site) dry lot for 7 days. So having a generator is probably needed, but there is a dump station to use and bathroom/shower while in dry dock. This rule is for all owners there. We have tried to get our feeder an exemption but sadly we havenít been able to.

Having owned and trained horses, and participated in rescuing horses, that is far too much work involved in exchange for a sometimes FHU RV site. There is an inherent danger in working with abused horses.

Ranch work has always been wages and found. Eg a bunkhouse and food.
Sorry. No

You're asking quite a lot for part time full hookups. I wish you a lot of luck finding someone for this unpaid position with attached liability!

I have to agree with Ray, that is a lot of work for a RV spot. Especially since as a volunteer I will still be required to move to a dry spot. I am sure you will find some one desperate enough to take this position but for some one with equestrian experience, especially this in depth with rescues, you are putting yourself out there for a lawsuit. Either from an untrained volunteer or injury to a horse.

We checked out another horse rescue site and I still don't understand the strict feeding times like 5:30 AM? Being brought up on a dairy farm I know that large animals can be very dangerous when they hate humans due to a past abusive experience. They will kill you if given a chance, (we had a neighbor mom killed by a mean bull). Then, 4 months is just too long to volunteer, that should be a seasonal paid w/experience job.

Thank you everyone for your positive replies. We have filled this position. The horses at our rescue are all elderly, gentle and very friendly. They are very easy to care for.
