Usually by Thanksgiving we have our assignments for the next year confirmed. Winter in the south, summer in the north.
There is no "USUAL" this year.
Many past winter and summer USFWS resident volunteers have sheltered in place. Many, if not most, managers are waiting for regional approvals to open visitor facilities.
If you are aware of a USFWS Refuge (exclusively), where an opening becomes available please PM me. Wouldn't want the whole world to know.
We check Volunteer.gov daily.
Waiting to hear back from Merritt Island, Piedmont, St Marks, Lower Suwannee, Eufaula. If you are leaving or not returning one of these locations we would like to hear it early. Thank you.
We were in a Louisiana refuge when this all began after Mardi Gras. Then spent the summer on a refuge in Montana. Actually social distancing is way easier on a wildlife refuge than it is here at home.
We know the risks and how to stay safe. If you want to discuss those issues please open up your own thread. Thanks
