Work Camping in Black Hills of S.D.

We are looking at our summers in SD and interested in Work Camping there.

Checked out a few web sites and talked with 3 different couples on our recent trip up there.

Just wondering if there are any others who have or are work camping in the Black Hills of SD and might offer some suggestions.

Thanks!!!
Jim

Try Whistler Gultch in Deadwood - also I know the city of Deadwood hires some folks that get free or reduced cost access to local RV places

Hi, We are at Custer State Park. They utilize volunteers for camphost and other jobs, but do pay for gate attendants and some campground attendants. We also know some couples doing various jobs at Crazy Horse. They have a low cost camp area and make about $9.00 per hr. Most reports are good. gd lk.

Mt. Rushmore hires summer help as do some of the local attractions. We worked at Sylvan Lake in Custer State Park and enjoyed it. Boss was a putz but everything else was fun especially during bike week.

Worked at Custer State Park Resort 2013 season

My wife and I worked at Custer State Park Resort the season of 2013 April to end of Sept 2013.
Custer State Park Resort is a concessionaire for Custer State Park so don't get the 2 confused. One pays and the other uses volunteers.
The Resort pays and the job is good or we thought so. I worked as a Jeep Tour Guide, taking people into the park and getting into the Buffalo herds it was a blast enjoyed it enormously, good pay plus tips. My wife worked at the State Game Lodge Front Desk and she also enjoyed her job and work.
A common problem is the supervisor or managers lack any sort of skills with relation to people skills and management of a workforce. Upper management is excellent and plenty of great support, team work plus.
You pay for your RV site at $18 a day each and the same amount for food 3 meals a day, food varied to good, to, you kidding me, you expect me to eat that?
Seriously a great place to work and a most beautiful place to visit and work. They will be hiring again soon go to, Custer State Park Resort :: Hotel and Lodge Information in Custer State Park for contact info Rob Steele is the HR person, great guy.
Another place is Crazy Horse, pay is less and your sites and food is less, heard good and bad about working there.
Good luck Custer and South Dakota is a beautiful area of the USA

Thanks for the information. Sounds like you guys just might go back again huh.
I would love doing the jeep rides. We have driven through the park many times. Was out there this summer but did not get south to Custer. Hit many of the off the grid places folks normally don't see. Had a blast!!
