2006-2008 vs 2010-2012 Ram 1500 for cross country trip?

I'm looking for a gas 5.7 hemi 4x4, I'll be driving at least 6,000 miles over the summer and fall. My travel trailer will be around 5500lbs max (wet).

I could afford the 4th gen but I'm seeing late 3rd gens for HALF the price. When considering reliability, gas mileage, tow capacity; what do you think would be the best move? I could care less about the interior or exterior looks. Thanks!

Any should be be able to handle it but I think I would go newer if I could. I think you may need a equalizer hitch. It would make your towing a little easier. What is the allowable tongue weight on your truck. 6000# trailer will probably be at least a 600# TW.
