Concerned about insurance and looking for a book

We are getting ready to go full time soon. We have been living in our 5wheel while selling our house. It suits us and we are looking forward to the adventure. Are there any good books out there explaining the insurance laws and requirements. I've learned a lot from these forums (especially that we have a lot to learn) and that it should be doable.

I'm not aware of a specific book on insurance laws but I'm sure there are some comparison tables to be found on the internet although they might be outdated. Things change constantly.

No full-timer has the same issues to check out. We all have different RVs, are different ages and have different tax requirements to check out. Medical is now a big thing if you're not yet on Medicare, especially for South Dakota.

The most popular states for establishing a domicile would be Texas, Florida and South Dakota but there are others that folks use. It just depends on YOU as to what will turn out to be the cheapest state to domicile.

We'd highly recommend the Escapees RV Club in Livingston, Texas and their forum if you have Texas questions. Livingston for a domicile is so simple to set up because the town knows full-timers and what Escapees is all about. You can do everything in a couple hours. The local agencies move you along to the next one to get it done.

The Club goes to bat on behalf of full-timers and has taken address issues to court on behalf of the Escapees mail service as being a legitimate legal address to use. Some states have problems using P.O. boxes or the mail forwarding address. With Escapees you will receive you own unique address. We haven't encountered any problems with any financial institution using our Escapees address.

Escapees has also gone to the Texas government recently regarding a proposed mandatory yearly inspection. The result is that you don't have to return to Texas every year for an inspection. You will have a certain amount of time once you enter Texas to have it done. If you never stay in Texas you'll have no problems. If you do stay, it's a fast simple procedure. Livingston has already stated to the Escapees Club that they will work with Escapees on this issue.

Escapees is offering a special membership price right now until the end of October of $29.95 in honor of their 35th year in business.

I'm sure other states would work for you but just wanted to explain a little of Escapees because we've been very happy members for almost 20 years.

Good luck choosing your state of domicile. It takes a lot of investigating on what's best for you.

I Joined Escapees a month ago, as we are plan going full-time in three years.
There is a lot of Experienced Full Timers over there with alot lot of information, and Knowledge. Also the Escapees Head Quarters web page has a lot of contact numbers where you can call and talk on the phone to someone about any issues you may have. Really glad we joined ahead of time.
Hope this helps. Best of luck. See you down the road.
Scott

Good idea but keep in mind of the date it was written and re-check all the information yourself. Things change constantly.
