When my desktop crapped out, I just couldn't get used to the laptop keyboard.

I've heard that SSD drives won't survive as many read/write cycles as a HDD.

This is true but factor in the jostling around lowering the life of the hdd and I think the ssd will last longer.

The read write cycles for a ssd is more of a server issue. It would take years for an average person to wear out their drive, and by then you will have moved to another computer or a bigger drive.

I have read that you should never defrag an SDD drive. Same for memory stick.

There is no need. The purpose of defragging is to increase read speed where the disk spins and the head has to jump around to 100 different spots for one fragmented file, ssd do not have that problem.

I have a netbook (mini 10) a Desktop (HP with a 21" wide screen montor) and a brand new Toshiba Satellite.... For the first time in history I was able to put a internet video stream up on it's 15.6" wide screen and open the IRC chat room in a window beside it.
normally I put the video on a 'droid
Size is not the only consideration, the monitor on the Satellite is right where I need it to be for best viewing.
Oh, AMD processor, 4 Gigs ram 500 Gigs HD, 250 bucks.
If I need to replace the HD, the new one, right now, 350 bucks.
So I got 100 off on the HD and a computer for free. And lovely wallpaper too....

1 Desktop (10TB of storage, that's 10,000GB) for photography & Video. I'm a pro wildlife/nature photographer. No laptop will handle what I have although I am considering changes in the near future with Thunderbolt external drives. Regardless I'd still have to be connected to massive storage somehow.
2 Laptops
2 iPads
2 iPhones

We are not yet on the road but have researched this to make my home network fit in the RVing style.
Here is what I have in my home:
4 Laptops
- 2 Laptops are: Dell Latitudes 6540's with dock stations
- 1 ASUS G73SW
- 1 ASUS G74VW
2 tablets
- 1 Iphoney Tab
- 1 Galaxy
1 wireless router Asus RT-AC66U
1 NAS Asustor AS-604T
1 POE Switch Black Box PoE L2 (this is to run my surveillance cameras)
1 60" TV/Monitor connected to one of the Dell Latitudes
1 40" TV/Monitor connected to the other Dell Latitude
We watch all of our TV shows via XBOX (great tv ability) and the PS3. We do not have a TV subscriber and use only a 12meg internet service. What ever shows we can not find on the game consoles we use the Dell computers and watch it via the internet. The dell computers are not disconnect very often from the dock station which is how the TV's are connected.
I work as an intern for a school doing Network engineer (glorified IT support) and go to school to get my Certs for networking. plus a gamer.
Wife works at Amazon and is going to school (because she can). I don't remember what she is taking, lol. But also a gamer.
I hope this helps, I know your question was one that I had also. Our journey will not start till 2015, but wanted to get things changed now to see how it will all fit. This past weekend we moved from 3K sqft house to just under a 1k sqft apartment (where in the hell am i going to put all these boxes of NASCAR, Medieval memorabilia and Tools. Then we still have Kitchen supplies...)
Good Luck

If you care to replace either check out the All-in-One computers. Looks like a LED tv . Large flat panel with HD, DVD, connections all inside it. No separate CPU. Only thing on deck is wireless keyboard and mouse.

I like the all-in-ones, work great for many things.
I have a high request in graphics that the all in ones usually don't deliver. Which most of my systems have a good ATI-Radeon or Nvidia card in them. These cards allow my FPS to be above 50 FPS usually.
Thanks for the suggestion, it is something I do suggest to people that are not into the PC gaming or video editing.
