Escapees/Florida
Any thoughts/regrets about changing domicile from your state to florida thru escapees?
Fulltimers currently in sumpter county florida (blueberry hill rv resort) for 2 months.
Want to change domicile from michigan to florida thru escapees while here.
Just looking for the good/bad/ugly in doing so.

That’s just one of the services people use in FL. I reside there so no need for me to do that but many discussions about it. It may not be the cheapest/easiest one to use either.

Here is the information: https://www.escapees.com/mail-servic...service-works/
Rates are $95 - $135/year + postage on your mail
We used them for 18 yr. with absolutely no issues with a Texas address.
As I understand it, if you do it to get a Florida address only your vehicle registration and perhaps one or two legal documents are mailed to Florida address because that's your domicile. Everything else goes to the Texas address. Many have done it.

Been an Escapees Bushnell resident for 2 years and very happy. But it is about your life and plans. Sumter county is very embracing of the FT folks to deal with them. I stop in the Escapees park a couple of times a year to see doctors, vets, etc. I really enjoy that FL residents over 65 can stay at the state parks for half price. Yes that does take planning ahead, but I enjoyed spending the winter moving among the parks. True about the 2 addresses - the big mail processing is in TX. Any mail to FL is actually sent to TX to go out when and where you wish. There is a charge for mail that needs to be sent on to TX so you will use that as a mailing address for everything except the state stuff that must use the legal address.

I've used https://www.sbimailservice.com/ for about five years, works fine. They're good for changing domicile and post instructions.

More than you think.
There is far more to creating domicile in a state than just mail forwarding. On the Escapees website they have a lot of information regarding what constitutes domicile. I suggest you study it intensely.

I have read the articles on escapees website about domicile and residency and changing everything you have to florida to satisfy the legal end.
Not sure about that. All our doctors, banking and working in the summer is in michigan, even though we full time that would mean filing taxes in 2 states. Our health insurance is thru my employer i retired from as is my pension.
I think i would be opening a legal catatastorphy by keeping ties to michigan .
Any thoughts on that? Sure want to avoid my pension being taxed and lower my vehicle plates and insurance but not sure if its worth it in the long run if the courts question my residency

Gone are the days of.....I wanna say I live in fl !
Getting a FL DL today takes several documents to show proof of U.S. citizenship
and FL residence. I couldn't even renew my FL DL without showing proof of current residence. And mail address ain't one of them.

There is no state income tax in FL. I would assume that you would pay income tax to Michigan on money earned in MI. If you were a FL "resident", pension and SS would not be taxed by the state.
Talking to an elder care attorney may assuage your fears.
All that said, the first year tag fees in FL will be significant, but cheap after that. Tag fee for or 2018 Kia Soul is $36. I understand tag fees in MI are pretty brutal, at least on larger coaches.

This is simply the State implementing the "Real ID" act. All States have to do this. Florida's requirements won't be any different from those of any other States.

We use Escapees (Our state residency address is in Box Elder SD)
As Escapees have a physical SD "stick & brick storefront address, the state (again SD), uses that address as our "physical state residence" address for all banking/retirement income/auto-RV-health insurance/state business .
Then the SKP storefront forwards to their Livingston TX USPS and holds until You "call for your mail"
All personal mail (mags/family correspondence etc. are sent direct to the Escapees home post office in Livingston..
I suspect that Florida Escapees do the same..
Has worked very well for us..

Correct about FL Escapees counting as residence. There has been activity in more than one state pushing back against "domicile" and what counts. In FL, at least so far, Escapees is fine since there is an actual location where people can and do stay. The services that are just a box in a building where no one could reside have had a different outcome in some places. While no one at the Sumter county DMV required it, Escapees does provide a "proof" letter when you tell them you are going to use FL as domicile when you sign up for the mail service.
On the other question about doctors etc., I can only say I followed the Escapees recommendation to set up business connections, etc. in FL. Think about things like making sure any legal papers (living wills,POAs,final will) are in keeping with the state where you become a legal resident. As far as medical, make sure any choices you made in selecting coverages are applicable once you are a resident of a different state.

We used America's Mall Box for a couple years as well. Never got a SD DL. Have had a FL DL since 1962.
Since you quoted my post, I can't figure out the relevance of Box Elder and whats required to obtain a FL DL
