As part of our escape plan - we're thinking about destinations. We don't want to overdo the "living free" by driving like there is no tomorrow. Want a more leisurely pace. Have a few prime destinations lined up and slow roll our way around. Take our time getting there, smell the roses along the way then stop, hang out for a month or so and move on to the next place.

We've done Yellowstone / Teton / SD a number of times and will again, but won't be first out of the gate as our planned launch is Jan '14 - leaving out of north Texas.

So - favorite resorts, campgrounds, parks? We will be 38' + toad so there are some restrictions. Other than that - we're wide open. If there are time limits on your favorite less than 1 month and nearby moves in a favorite area, throw them in.

Like many, I suppose, we are nature, picture, fishing, lake and stream, mountain and valley, seeing and doing fans. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Situated so that it is close enough for day trips to Savannah and other historical cities.

There are SO many,....but...."favorites" have to be Haines, Alaska (fabulouse time), and Bluewater Key Campground/Key West, Florida.....(it's an island ting maun !!).

Make Halifax, Nova Scotia a target for that summer (get your passport now) and take a leisurely 6 months getting there. Along the way you will see lots of the US. If you are getting started fulltiming, don't limit yourself to one month stays - instead have a target for the summer and work your way there, then have a target for the winter and work your way there. 1-2 week stays will be better for you, allow you to see a lot of things in an area and then move on. That way there on no long days of driving in between stays.

The journey is our destination, and the best plan is no plan.

The weather channel gives us a compass heading. We always find way too much to do in short order.

However.... We have especially enjoyed the following as a base to explore from.

This is basically what my father and step-mother did for several years. Based out of Indiana and would RV much of the year. The plan would be something like "going west, then maybe south aways - probably back to Indiana in the spring".

We go for general areas, so our top favorite spots are:

1/ Winter -> SW Desert...anywhere in CA, AZ. You just can't beat the desert in winter & we spend our time going from one spot to the next. Most of the time we'll boondock (free-camp) on BLM land.

2/ Spring -> SW Desert or Utah. Catch the spring blooms in Anza Borrego, for example and then start making your way through Utah

3/ Summer -> CO mountains or Oregon coast. We like to be cool in the summer and usually chose either one of these 2 spots. In Colorado we love the Ouray/Telluride area and stay at high altitude in national forest sites. The Oregon coast has perfect weather all summer and we love EVERYTHING. First year on the OR coast we did top 1/2 (from Astoria to Florence), 2nd year we did bottom half. We stay at State Parks all along the way.

4/ Fall -> We love, love, love the Eastern Sierras, especially Hwy 395. We catch the fall colors along the way and stay in National Forest or BLM sites.

Hilton Head Island. Very close to Savannah. Stay at Hilton Head RV Resort and Yacht Club. Right on Skull Creek. Great place to spend a week, a month or a season.

You guys always make me jealous, and you look so young. Good for you, and I hope you are as happy as you look in your sig pic, it sounds like you are.
My wifes' 10 years younger than me and we need her income now. I wanna do what you guys are doing but hope my health holds up til we can afford for her to quit her job.

We are definitely happy. We work on the road which is one of the reasons we can do it at our age. If you're able to take your $$ mobile it makes it all do-able. Hope you get your dreams on the road soon!
