check it out as we found this to be the fullest and least expensive.

Thanks very much, I will certainly check them out. That is much less than I’m paying now and it’s not full time.

We were in a similar situation, sold out, bought a nice piece of property to build on but decided due to the current situation in communist Alberta not to and rather stay flexible - so glad we did.
We went with Aviva after our broker did some exploring, put all cards on the table. However, the truck and the car are insured through SGI.

My insurance broker called today to see if I’m still living in my house and I am. I mentioned to her that I had some discussion about Aviva on line and that they full time and are insured with Aviva. Turns out that Aviva only insures fifth wheels and trailers but not motorhomes because of the liability issue. You are getting the liability insurance for your fifth wheel through your truck insurance. Motorhomes are different.
I’ll have to check with State Farm and Progressive I guess.

Interesting, I didn't know they won't insure motorhomes. I'm aware of the liability coverage through the truck, but for an extra $82 a year (don't quote me on the exact amount) we maintain coverage even when the trailer is not with the truck at the same location. I guess as fulltimers we have to think outside the box sometimes .

Make sure you get coverage for the US (and Mexico) if that applies to you.

Btw.: When my broker worked on our policy there were more than $2,000 difference between the lowest and the highest bidder on the exact same coverage.

This is the second time I have heard this about Alberta insurance through Aviva. After contacting my broker (Wayfarer In Beaverton Ontario) I was assured that was not the case in Ontario and that we were fully covered as full timers. In a previous post I outlined our coverage. Also Wayferers Insurance Brokers is a division of Aviva as well. My broker didn't want to comment on the situation in Alberta other than to say that each province is different.

Aviva also owns Elite Insurance (They cover the vehicular collision and liability on the coach) and Scottish and York (They cover my car). Aviva issues my full timer coverage for loss, fire, theft and liability (when stationary)directly.

The only other thing I would be concerned about is did you hear this directly from Aviva or a broker?

Full Time Canadian Insurance

I heard it from my broker, she called Aviva and they said they don’t insure for full time use for motorhomes. She said Elite didn’t either. I have a few other company’s to try yet. I have lived in Alberta for 61 years, it’s time to spend time by the ocean. Doesn’t look like Alberta wants me to leave. If other provinces allow it why doesn’t Alberta? One way or another I’m hitting the road.

As I said before, I've heard this story twice lately both on this form and Full-Time RVers - Canada page on Facebook. In both cases it had to do with Alberta and a broker providing the information. I would think that there would be more full-timers in Alberta running into the same problem. Also it's very curious that this is isolated to Alberta.

Not wanting to step my foot into it but if it were me I would be either calling an insurance company direct or talking to another broker to confirm this information.

After this first discussion on Facebook I had emailed our broker at Wayferers and got this reply " Yes, you are covered as Full Time Rv’ers. Your Motor Home, Auto and Full Timers are all in force here. Insurance across Canada is different depending on what Province you reside in, there are different rates, coverages and different guidelines that would apply. I have not been advised of any upcoming changes to our Full Timers Package here in Ontario." I also phoned and asked her is there was any special out of country effect and she told me that I was fully covered for up to 6 continuous months on each occasion.
