Good Sam Roadside assistance not so good!

I had a slow leak on my Class A motor home in Grove, OK . I was able to get off the road to a RV park and thought I would use my Good Sam membership...I called the number and was not able to get to a person just a menu that gave me no option to speak to a person. I finally found a selection for "BMW" owners and told the person that I wanted Roadside assistance for my motor home and could not get through on the phone after 30 minutes of trying. She said she had the same problem but would try some other lines and have a rep call me back, 5 minutes passed and GS called and put me on hold. After 5 more minutes I explained my situation and she said that she could have a new tire brought out which I had to pay for. I explained that the 400.00 michelin tire was almost brand new and I just needed it repaired due to the slow leak. She then said that GS does not do that?? I said " so good sam won't fix a flat and she said, "sir I am shocked as much as you are" Well that's my experience with GS next year it's AAA or Coachnet for me.

I think if you call Coachnet,AAA , and other's , even your insurance company(if covered) they will not come out/dispatch a repair/tow truck to fix a "slow leak" in a tire. You were not "broke down" , stranded..........Sorry to be the "Bearer" of bad news.......

Here is the "Tire Policy" at Goodsam.....

Flat Tire Service

A service technician will replace a flat tire

with your inflated spare, or we’ll tow your

vehicle to the nearest professional service

center. On occasion and whenever possible,

we will make arrangements for the member to

purchase a tire(s) for delivery to the disablement scene. In these

cases Good Sam Roadside Assistance will pay for delivery of

tire only, member is responsible for all additional costs including

cost of tire(s), mounting, balancing, other parts or labor, tax and

any other fees. Note: This benefit does not include seasonal tire

changes. Member is responsible for all parts and labor.

Coach Net:

Changing of your vehicle's flat tire, delivery of a comparable tire for towing of
your vehicle to a repair facility.

Maybe it would be easier to have just let the air out of your tire and then had them tow you to a garage to have it repaired.

It's true "You just can't fix stupid and it doesn't come with any instructions".

I've not had to use my Good Sam RA for about a year, but found the phone # on my card got me right to a person. They listened and dispatched a tire repair service from the area, once in Wyoming and once in Oregon. In both my issues tire needed replacement. I would have asked what service they contracted with in the area and called for tire repair, at my cost. I hope you find Coachnet or AAA to your liking.

The problem of towing RV with a flat would quickly become tire replacement instead of repair - - if it was on the rear axle.

Y'all just cant ask to have it repaired, don't know any company that can come of there shop and bring all the repair gear, as in tire buster equ. if said you had a flat and come someone come and change it for you, they would. cant repair it but they can change it.

Used my GSRA last night when someone accidently locked themselves out at the picnic table.. Got right through. The pushbutton menu isn't perfectly intuitive but even someone who just locked himself out at 9:30 at night figured it out. Just glad I had my wallet and cell phone on me or Annie might be a widow today... she was a great sport about it. 2/3rds of happiness is a happy wife.

Took the guy 5 minutes to pick the lock and open the door.

Good Sam Roadside assistance not so good!

I carry a mounted spare. Woke up to a flat the morning the day before thanksgiving and we were headed to relatives for the holiday that day. Called GS who dispatched a tire service. Fella came, saw the nail in the tire, and broke it down and patched from the inside on the spot instead of putting on the spare. I think I gave him $40 for the repair.

YMMV depending on who they send out and how they are equipped/experienced.

just by reading this, it appears coach net is better, at least it didn't rule out mounting a tire. i carry a unmounted spare, hopefully they can swap it in time of need. my last gsra was expired in dec, i think i am going to get coach net in feb.

I got to studying on this, found a better "tire" description On Coach net, I called to verify:

Flat Tire: Changing of your vehicle’s flat tire using the vehicle’s good mounted and inflated spare tire, delivery of a comparable tire to the disablement site or for towing of your vehicle to a repair facility.

They are all about the same..........

Have used good sam 3 times in past year: once to tow us out of a mud pit on side road, and 2 times to unlock my jeep where someone locked the keys inside (me). I think they're great! Don't be mad at them because they won't do something they don't say they do.

Seems to be a lot of that here. People need to read and understand the contract!

Have used GS 3 times in the last 2 years. Two of the experiences have been excellent and the third was disappointing in that it took too long to get a tow truck. They claimed they had some kind of police emergency which was hard to believe. In any case all of the road services GS, AAA, and coach net use the same tow companies so I would say go for the best coverage for the money paid.
