If you are a passport America member you get a discount with the mail service as well!
Florida is a great state to have as your domicile.

I used Mailbox Forwarding ( Mailbox Forwarding - View Postal Mail Online, Mail Forwarding, Mailing Address, Virtual Office PO Box, and Private Mailbox Rental Services) when we started fulltiming in 2010. I was very, very satisfied with the service and it's not that expensive. They have FL, MI, and CA addresses available. We were FL residents and just changed our address to their Pompano Beach address. They also offer fax service. FL is a good choice as the taxes are low and vehicle registration is reasonable. No income tax either.
We moved our residency to Seattle Washington last year, and use Earth Class Mail now. ECM is good, but much more expensive. WA is another great state with no income tax.

The three most popular states for full timers are SD, TX, and FL.
We chose SD and use DAKOTA POST as our mail forwarding service. They used to be Alternative Resources but changed their name a few weeks ago.
They have some info on their site about why SD may be a good choice.

Hopefully, this post will be moved to the full-timing forum.
We've used the Escapees RV Club mail forwarding - Livingston, TX for 18 years with absolutely no problems.

If you do a search on iRV2 for "domicile" you will probably get more results than you have time to read.
SD, TX and FL are the 3 main states used by full-timers. The primary reasons are none of them has state income tax, they all make it relatively easy to establish residency, and they all have reliable mail forwarding services that are recognized by the respective states as legal addresses for vehicle registration and drivers license.
Each state has advantages and disadvantages. Evaluate carefully before making a final choice.

SD and America's Mailbox. Choose SD over Tx and Fl because vehicle registration is cheap and no vehicle inspection.

We use Nevada, because it was close, we like Laughlin, and the tax issues. We use a mail forwarding service in Las Vegas, they post the sender's name for your letters on-line, and youi can have your mail forwarded as often as you want. State of Nevada recognizes your forwarding address as a legal residence, for everything but voting.

We use Escapees and have been for many years. Very friendly staff and we have had absolutely no problems. We would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

You'll be surprised how little you need the post office. Maybe once or twice a year I get necessary mail sent to my parents house

Escapees
We chose Texas as our domicile and use the Escapees service simply because we were Texas residents when we started full time, it was an easy choice.

+1 for PAZ. Each of the big three have advantages and disadvantages. Vehicle licensing, health care, sales tax, insurance costs, etc. Best to evaluate which works best for you in the long run.

This is probably a dumb question but would there be any reason not to use a UPS Store or something similar?
We are Colorado residents now and we're just planning to keep our residency here while we fulltime for a year. Didn't really want the headache of switching residency.
Can anyone recommend what would be better? Using an out of state mail forwarding service like Dakota Post even though we're residents in CO because they are more RVer friendly, or just use something like a UPS store??

The UPS store will work fine. Just make sure you do a TEMPORARY mail forward at the post office to the UPS Store. As I recall the temporary forward is only good for six months but I think you can extend it for six more months. You should check on that.
Last year when we snowbirded we had the post office do a temporary forward to our mail forwarding service and they sent it on to us in AZ and it worked great.
We still have our full timing mail service in SD active as we phase out of full timing into fixed domicile life here in Palisade CO so we used it instead of a local UPS Store.
