Meandering..... that’s us!!! Seldom drive on anything bigger than a state highway (just need to know what’s coming!). Research ahead for municipal/county/state parks etc. Then cruise the toad on all the “little” roads and see what we can find. I drive the MH while DW navigates then we switch places in the toad.
Delorme Gazetteer is our friend.
Yup, meandering...it’s fun!!

London, KY

We were heading north up I-75 and decided to check-out a town called London, KY. It was early afternoon and we would spend the night there if we could find a CG. Entering town we saw RVs parked at a motel. Well, it was called Westgate RV CG and the motel managed it. We got a nice pull-thru FHU site with 50 amps. Less than a quarter of a mile from the CG we could see a tall Cracker Barrel restaurant sigh. So we unhooked and went there for supper. On the way out we picked-up an area attractions pamphlet. Its feature advertisement was the Moonbow at Cumberland Falls. We decided to investigate and asked the motel manager if we could extend our stay a few days? Yup!

The pictures below are sort of self explanatory with the monument picture. Because the Moonbow is a periodic event we missed it. But the park and river views were worth the extra day stop.

We full-timed 16 years by 'meandering'. Awesome things you find around the next bend!

BOBMAR: We started out with the Delorme Gazetteer but switched to the Benchmark Series of individual states. The backroads are so much clearer and easier to read than Delorme. We eventually got one for every western state.

We meandered our first year, if something caught our interest, we’d go see it. Second year not so much, But this last year between Covid and health issues we needed addressing. So this year we are stationary where we will eventually buy and settle back down. Gives us a chance to learn the area as in shop towns/neighborhoods before actually buying and to get our health care settled back down.

Rawlings, WY

During a 10 day stay at Rawlings, WY we went out to the large Seminoe, SP and drove up and down the dirt roads looking for wild animals. We didn’t have to go far to find Mule Deer, they were grazing out behind a bank.

The CG at the SP was closed because of low water conditions. We did find Pronghorns and a string of wild horses.

Mackinac Island, MI

Ferry boats constantly are make daily round trips to the island at vacation times.

Once there are you have choices. Walk, rent a bike, take personal buggy rides or take the island tour in larger commercial buggies.

The island is clean but the smell of horse droppings can be strong when there is no air movement.

These pictures are just a small glimpse of the hundreds we took.

FastEagle - your pictures of Mackinac Island brought back some great memories! I grew up in Michigan and we would go to Mackinac every couple of years or more. So enjoyed riding bikes around the island and the carriage rides. Oh and the fudge!
Michigan is definitely on our RV bucket list. Can't wait to go stay somewhere near and go back to the island! and the UP..

During our first stay at the RV Park aboard the Naval Air Station, Corpus Christy, TX we went out to Padre Island to drive up and down the long beach area.

Our parking site overlooked the bay and had a covered patio. Driving out the main gate and going left to cross the Inter Costal Waterway took us right to a beach entrance. We parked, walked the beach and talked with some guys catching eating size fish in the surf. It was a beautiful clear day.

Wells Beach, ME

On the way out to Wells Beach on Mile Road you’ll find Billy’s Chowder house. It has been there for more than 70 years and they know how to make delicious sea food meals.

Someone else owned it before Billy. However, he kept the motif and great menus, quit cooking lobster in big pots in the middle of the floor and put in more seating where those pots and water tanks were. Some people just didn't like to see their lobster cooked.
