Medical Insurance

Hi,

We're starting full-time rving in February and we're wondering what sort of medical insurance we can get. Got a couple of quotes...one for 2 million dollars worth of coverage and one for 10 million...seems awfully high.

Surely you wouldn't need to be covered for more than 2 million dollars for emergency medical.

Anyway...just wondering what everyone's advice is about this. We live in Canada and will be traveling for four months in the States.

Thanks
Barbara

Hi ho. It is now March and I can’t believe you got no responses on this topic! Although we are in the U.S. (Pennsylvania), we, similarly, are investigating medical insurance changes as the second of us is retiring at the end of the month, when we plan to hit the road. Does anyone out there have good recommendations (or bad experiences) for medical insurance plans when traveling around the U.S.?

Hope your travels are going smoothly, AloraDanin. Best wishes!

We have a Medicare supplement plan that seems to serve us fine. The Medicare supplement plan does not require any referrals for specialist care and you can use the medical services anywhere in the country as long as they accept Medicare. Also, there are no doctor visit co-pays.
I would guess that these plans are not available to our Canadian friends, can't help any on that part.

Don't know if you can get any medical ins in the US without a US address. But, really don't know. Call any of those mail forwarding services in South Dakota for information, Alternative Resources or My Home Address. They may have some info that could help.

Folks,

They are Canadian. They have provincial health insurance and need to find coverage for when they are out of country and that won't be with a US insurer, but with a Canadian insurer in their province - something that most of us probably know nothing about because we are US citizens.
