New Full Timers, Used Tiffin or New Coachmen?

Hello Everyone!

Me and the DH are about to live the dream and become full timers. We haven't purchased our rv yet, so we just wanted to get some opinions. We are looking at a new 2014 Coachmen Mirada SE 29DS or a 2011 Tiffin Allegro 35QBA. Does anyone have an opinion on which one would be better suited for full time living? Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks,
E.

From all I've read floorplan is the most important thing. Why buy new? Your going too pay so much, a used RV can cost so much less. I don't think I'd ever buy new, just too expensive. The RV depreciate so fast, think about that. Good luck...

Best luck on your search!

Your question is a complicated one. Except for being on the Ford F53 Chassis, these RV's are very different...GVWR, 7' of length, bunk beds, and the differences go on.

Buy new if you can afford it, for that new feel.
Buy used to get more for your money.

Enjoy the hunt.

Both the Mirada and the Allegro are entry level coaches, but if you look closely, you will see the Allegro is definitely a cut above the Mirada. As a current Tiffin owner, going with the Allegro would be a no-brainer for me. Not only is it a nicer coach, it is much bigger (35', 4 slides vs. 29', 2 slides). Not only that, but Tiffin customer support is legendary.

The other thing to look at is the cargo carrying capacity of both coaches. A sheet showing the CCC should be posted inside a cupboard somewhere. Unless you really are minimalists, you will need AT LEAST 1,000 lbs per person. Our CCC is around 3,000 lbs, and we are using up every bit of it. The Mirada is on a 20,500 lb GVWR chassis while the Allegro is on a 22,000 lb GVWR chassis. However, the Allegro is longer and has 4 slides so I suspect both coaches have a marginal CCC for full-timing.
