Finally found two case managers on my unit that I could stop and talk to. They both said that if you are hospitalized as a result of going to the ED then it is covered by your health insurance. no issues there in their opinion, and they deal with the maze that is the health care system every day and have been there for decades. I'm not an expert on this, just relaying their info...
