prescription assistance programs, Canadian drugs

I chose to retire at age 60, thanks to a small inheiritance, some investments and the ability to live frugally. Self pay insurance would bankrupt me quickly. I am trying to live healthy until Medicare kicks in, but I need 3 daily prescription drugs that are costly.

I gave up good health insurance that paid at least 70% on drugs. I managed to backstock 6-12 months of my prescrptions, but worry about how I will pay for them after that. Can any of you give me information about programs that help the uninsured. Also, any info about getting cheaper prescriptions from Canada?

Thanks!!

Hi,
we're from BC, Canada

Wasn't sure where you are from.....for us, we have provincial medical, and to get prescriptions cheaply, it depends on how much you make per yr. over on the right hand side of this page I see an ad for Canada Health and Dental.....CoverMe Canada: Health & Dental, Life & Travel Insurance
good to check out.....

I know we also can't be out of province for more than 6 mo either, or we lose our provincial benefits.

I rv full-time but am a legal resident of South Dakota. I have heard that buying drugs from Canada is a cheaper way to go, but wonder about the legal issues. I am hoping to be able to qualify for some assistance from the drug company that makes the drugs I take. Lord knows I have paid them a fortune in the last 60 years.

in whatever area you are in call the council of aging and they should have info for you on how to get help with rxs. many cities have discount medical clinics that will help secure your medications. what state are you in?

OkMunky,

Are you aware of the Walmart $4 Prescription Program?

$4 Prescription Program - Walmart.com

I don't personally know about it, but a friend uses it.

I'm currently in Washington state, but plan to travel to north Texas next month -- as soon as it cools off down there.

About the Walmart Rx program -- none of mine are on that list. Thanks for the suggestion.

I was facing something similar when my cobra insurance ran out. For my wife more then me the insurance and prescription coverage was very important. Luckily she was awarded SS Disability and they gave her Medicare immediately due to her situation. That took a load off my mind. That left me to get some catastrophic insurance until my Medicare kicks in. I found a discount prescription card from Association Rx Card Program, Administered by Envision RxOptions. I asked the pharmacist whether the wife should forego the prescription card and just take on Medicare part D I believe but after reviewing the discount she gets with this card he said she was better off keeping it. To mention the wife is on 13 scripts a month, so to say the least it would have been quite costly had we not found this. We pay for the card on a quarterly billing cycle and I believe it cost her like $70.00 for the three months. The website is AssociationRXCard.com to check participating pharmacies and to get other info. Hope this helps a bit.
