E plan on going full time soon, I am a retired Police Officer and will be carrying a firearm. I was wondering what to do with my pistols if we travel into Canada? And have anybody had any problems with carrying firearms in your motorhome?

You might want to check this out. Handguns are restricted weapons here in Canada. You best source of information should be Canada Customs before you get to the border.

Hand guns in Canada forget about it. It is NO and they mean it big time.

As you must know as a retired officer you can carry in all 50 states.

No, a retired peace officer cannot carry in all 50 states. Unless that retired officer has a CCW Approved stamp on his/her retired ID card AND has qualified under LEOSA, (Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act), within the last 12 months.
Re:Canada, I have read before that there are gun lockers available at some facilities along the border.

Each state has it's requirements for retired peace officers and all states do not honor
each others requirements. Canada does not honor any of them retired or active.
Sometime ago there was a post about the different state requirements that had a link so you could look up the information on the states you plan to be in.
Retired many years ago from law enforcement and was an instructor and master
and attended many matches.

In answer to OP's question on MH I have had no problems as it is treated as a temp
abode.
Out side the MH either meet LEOSA or that states requirements.

Tom222 when we went into Canada at International Falls MN I checked ours at the local Police Dept, no problem. I would suggest your contact the local Law Enforcement Agency near the border where you plan to cross to see if they will accept custody of your weapons until you return to the States.

Canada is safe enough, you dont need weapons up there.

At any rate, I think you are SOL for taking a pistol there no matter what you used to do.

I rode my bike up there one time and the border patrol like to had a cat, interagated me for 15 minutes about having a handgun.

Long guns are ok.

No handguns in Canada or Mexico, no matter your experience. Long guns are permitted, literally.

Taking Guns to Canada? Beware!

So, looked at the Canadian site. If I understand this, you can take a handgun into and travel in Canada, but it looks like there is a lot of paperwork to be done before you arrive.

No you read it wrong. A hand gun is a restricted weapon in Canada therefore not allowed.
If you are planning to bring any type of weapon in to Canada for your own personal protection,that will probably get you a wonderful time visiting with our R.M.C.P.
As others suggested leave your weapon at the border and enjoy a wonderful time visiting Canada

Hi,

Guns are not allowed in Canada and you don't need them. I would leave them at home and if the border guard asks about guns just say you don't own any. If you feel unsafe in the lower 48 carry Wasp Spray which is very effective and less of a danger.

Just to give you a scenerio, I know of a person who told the border guard that he had guns and left them at home, well they told him to pull into the garage, leave it and they tore his motorhome apart and he had to put it back together.

We went to Alaska and back home and wasn't once concerned about our safety and I did have wasp spray if I needed which I didn't.
