You might want to take a look at my post in the thread just above this one.
It appears that we will now only have to provide a receipt for one nights stay in a campground or motel to renew our drivers license in SD.

Check ALL of your insurance. We spend 5 months a year in Florida ( as a NPS Park Ranger) and I considered "moving" from Texas to Florida in order to get in on their senior citizen resident deals. But I found that our Medicare supplement would almost double which was a deal breaker

As a disabled veteran in Texas, you can claim two vehicles and be charged $4 each annually for registration. You can have disabled plates on both. You can have a disabled plate on a 3rd vehicle but you will pay full registration fees depending on the type of vehicle and weight. There is no tax on income. Depending on city, at age 65 your dwelling taxes are reduced and frozen at that level for a stick house. As a 100% disable veteran there is no tax on dwelling.

Alan1 is correct about the Real Id Act and the 2010 requirements for SD, but I have been told that a receipt from an RV park, even for just 1 night will suffice. I would check that with any mail forwarding service you are planning to use. We have been South Dakotans for 6 years and have happily worked with Alternative Resources of Sioux Falls.
One other thing to think of is the requirement that you go to SD in person every 5 years to renew your driver's license. If your birthday is in the winter, you can renew 6 months early or request an extension for as much as 6 months.

When I stated no tax on dwelling for 100% disabled veteran, I am not sure of other regions, but in my city it is zero.
