RV Annual Registration Fees

We are thinking about either having our domicile in Texas or Florida and wondered if anyone knew what the annual registration would be on a Class A weighing approx 45k pounds?

Look into insurance cost as well. To register in FL you will need FL insurance which I found to be much higher than other places. I can't speak for Texas.

Thanks for the replies. I currently live in California and the annual registration of any vehicle is based on value which is horribly expense. A $50k car costs about $500-$600 a year to register I can imagine what an expensive Class A would cost

In 2000 our yearly registration for a $98,000 sticker price 1998 Santara Type A MH was above $2,400. Then there was a referendum and the result was us be able to move up to a DSDP.
Now, our yearly registration is $136 a year for a 2009 $750,000 stickered MH. But the sales/use tax is a killer at almost 10%.

If your overall plan includes choosing a domicile state, you might include South Dakota in the analysis as well.

  • Overall insurance costs (ALL vehicles and health)
  • Vehicle Emissions Testing (none in SD)
  • Online License Renewal (once every decade)
Of course, as is the case in both Texas and Florida, no state income tax.

Definitely check your medical insurance for any state, especially for South Dakota and if you have to purchase your own insurance. You need insurance that you can travel with and use anyplace in the U.S. you will be.

TX $340 on a 26k+ rig. Zero income tax. Full timers zero real estate tax. But must have rig safety inspected yearly. $14. Supplemental medicare $122 for nationwide coverage. Outside big cities cost of living below average. Warmer in winter, but got to leave in summer, not a big deal in an RV.

Add TN to your list, no income tax on retirement income and low registration fees.

I know a guy who has a Disabled Vet license plate on his Dutch Star. However, DV plates are NOT authorized for any vehicle over 18,000 GVWR.

I have DV plates on my Honda CR-V, but can't do it for the Itasca. Costs me $340 per year.

iirc if you have the rv outside of texas 24/7/365 you don't need to run back for the yearly inspections. when you enter texas with the rig it must be inspected.
