RV Insurance

We decided to park our 1997 Class A RV in a 55+ RV park year round and never drive it again as we had several break downs while traveling. We will drive to and from it and live in it 3 to 5 months out of the year. The problem we are having is insuring it. Insurance companies are making us buy full driving coverage including collision on it even though we told them it will be stationary from now on and tied down. Has anyone else out their parked a Class A RV and had this insurance issue? I would love to know the name of an insurance company that will treat it like a trailer now and insure it as such.

First, welcome to IRV2!

Although I can't directly answer your question, I'd suggest contacting the AARP/Hartford insurance folks, as you mentioned you will be in a 55+ park. Perhaps they offer an option of removing the collision coverage if the vehicle is parked. Some companies do, and others, as you've found don't allow the removal of coverage. Hopefully others will chime in with their experiences...

Maybe you could just switch to renter's insurance, since you will be renting the space. The only problem with not fully insuring it is that the ins co.'s will charge you extra if you ever try to drive it again. High risk because of the lapse in coverage. Call several ins companies for quotes.

The Old GMAC insurance (now National Ins) you buy through Good Sams has a deal that lets you park your coach and save a few bucks. Give them a call and see?
safe travels... ed

My two cents: The insurance companies are doing this for all policies now. They do it the same on motorcycles nowing someone will take it out on a nice Winter day. I do not like it but it is reality. I wish you the best. You can see most of my posts are directed at RV Insurance and the way I was treated.

If you have a loan on it then your hands are tied and they require you to have comprehensive and Collision on it to satisfy the loan agreement. But if you own it then you can get a policy that will treat it like a mobile home since you will not be moving it if you do not have it registered. If you are keeping it registered as a motor vehicle then the state requires you to carry liabilty insurance on it whether it moves or not. If no loan and no registration contact GEICO and tell them you are permanently Stationary and they will take care of it.

Can't understand them requiring collision unless you have a loan on it.
