Rv vandalized
Went to go pick up my TT from where I store it to trade it in on the rig we are going to full time in. It was broken into and vandalized. Now I have to wait for the insurance company to resolve this before I can move forward. What a pain in the rear.

I am very sorry.
Some may view a break-in or vandalism as a minor event, but I could not. Its also a personal invasion.
I hope you get the pieces put back together as quick as you can.
Do you have any advice on how to prevent something like this from happening now that you have been through it?

Well that makes for a crappy month. Did they do any real structural damage, or just a broken door latch and relatively minor damage inside?

Yeah, they broke in through a window and ripped the blind out in the process. When my slide was in, it blocked half the TV. They ripped the wall off my slide to steal a cheap TV. They also stole the stereo system. I had a really nice queen mattress that was stolen as well. I had it in a secured lot but I think you find out the limitations pretty quick. I don't know how long they stayed in there but there were drug paraphernalia inside.
They also broke my toilet and tried to rip my fridge out. All in all, it is all replaceable so I am grateful. The interesting part will be seeing how insurance handles this with the Coronavirus going on. Apparently they will not come out to look at it and everything is done remotely.

Did the lot have cameras so you can try to ID the perps?

Be sure you wear gloves before touching anything. I would sanitize the whole coach. You think you have a problem; but if one of the burglars has the virus your nightmare could just be beginning.
Secured places usually have cameras. Don't know value of your TT, but don't be surprised if insurance totals it.

"Secure" sure doesn't mean anything when everyone else using the facility has the access code to the main gate! It had to be someone with the code and vehicle to get through it, in order to walk away with a mattress!
I think I'd be hotter than fried eggs in a blow torch with the storage facility, especially if they advertise "secure". Demand to watch their security footage. Hopefully they have it. It's the least they could do for you, unless it was someone who works there that did it in the first place!

Sorry you had this happen. We had ours broken into as well not a good phone call from the lot. Yeah they broke in through drivers door window. Pretty easy they used the tires as a step and the mirror broke the glass and used the steering wheel to help themselves into my rig. Didn’t steal any thing but tried to set the mattress on fire but couldn’t. We traded that RV in for our new one. Felt violated.

It was evergreen element. They are out of business and finding parts is nearly impossible. The crazy thing is that from peeling back the wall to steal a it, my slide doesn't go out even. They must have pulled themselves into the camper by the awning because it doesn't roll up or out.
The lot has security but is "motion" activated and apparently over the entrance only. I told them that I think they had a truck or vehicle because carrying the mattress would have been too much.
I somewhat glad it happen with this rig rather then the new unit I was going to pickup.
The cops told me vandalism has been going up the last couple weeks. Just a reminder to everyone, there are more people at home and more people struggling than in a while. If you have your stuff in storage, might be worth checking on it frequently.

Possible outcomes :
1 Cause harm to innocent person
2 Make the potential thief angry and then REALLY trash the thing.
3 End up with a big liability claim
Does NOT seem advisable.

Expect it to be totaled out - which may end up in your favor as far as the value versus what you would have gotten on the trade.
I've had 2 coaches vandalized in two different storage yards in two different states.... The result was the same both times:
Storage yard's "videos" were only sufficient to identify the perps as humanoid. Not even male/female was discernible. Liability disclaimer from the yard meant they had NO penalty at all for their security being breached.
Coach #1, engine had a significant amount of water poured into the oil. Insurance paid close to $10k for a new engine, coach was not trashed or totaled. Vandalism was only exterior, they hadn't gotten in.
Coach #2, was totaled. Door was damaged, appliances and lights were removed, generator was removed, power cable was chopped off, they even stole all the light fixtures and the fuses! Obviously there was LOTS of time for them in that. What they didn't know... Was that one needed a new engine too, from a completely blown head gasket. They actually did us a favor, we were saving up to buy the engine at the time.
Funny coincidence I just realized now from thinking about this: BOTH places were owned by Public Storage when the vandalism / thefts happened. Anyone else had it happen while at Public Storage?

Your post makes me feel better. In my situation, I had the option of making a $10k investment to build expanded driveway, with rolling gate access, with my own 100 amp sub panel. Not to mention gray water drain. I get to eyeball my RV every day. Right now it is my WFH office as I don't get disturbed or disturbed others during the crisis. The money was in a way free, because I held out for a long time and got a brand new RV at such a good deal, the savings by going to Florida paid for the improvements. The asme for my boats as I just don't like open storage facilities if I can avoid.

Sabotage to avoid theft is totally a liability and can lead to you being put in jail so don't go there. I wish we could do it but we can't.
