State by state domicile comparison?

Does anyone have a comparison chart showing domicile info for SD, Florida, and Texas? This would need to include all taxes, vehicle registration, etc.

This would be a BIG help to those of us who are considering fulltiming!

Joe, this would be a good time for you to make one. It might not be easy seeing as how registration varies in every state. Some use age, some use purchase price, some use a combo of age and weight. And the list goes on and on.

Yeah Don, I guess you're right! Looks like it's gonna be something each individual will have to do for themselves!

Joe
I have S&B in TX and WA. WA is cheaper on RV reg, property taxes, Sales tax about the same, no income tax in either.
But it does Snow in WA, that is if we don't burn up this year!

Good info here
http://www.marketwatch.com/story/the...ees-2015-06-23

This site says TX has a lower Tax burden, but I find the property taxes in the RGV much higher than the rural area of WA I live in.

3. Texas
State and local tax burden as a share of state income: 7.5%

Low taxes (a 7.5% overall tax burden; the fifth lowest in the U.S.), mostly mild weather and very little snow are among the reasons you might consider the Lone Star State. Plus, Texas had the 13th lowest cost of living in the U.S. for the first quarter of 2015, according to MERIC. That makes it the cheapest places to live among all the states that don’t tax personal income. Other reasons to retire to here: Texas has friendly people and a slower pace of life that is easy to get used to, according to TopRetirements.com.

Washington
State and local tax burden as a share of state income: 9.4%

Retirees can use what they save on income taxes in the Evergreen State on enjoying the water, mountains and national parks here. True, the overall tax burden at 9.4% is also the national average. And the cost of living is 4.1% higher than the U.S. average. But where else can you buy, legally, a wake-and-bake drink (marijuana coffee)? And where else can you pay your respects to Bruce Lee and Jimi Hendrix. And what’s not to like about living in the same state as Bill Gates, one of the richest people in the world.

The mention of property tax or personal property tax in Texas, assuming we are talking full timers without a residence is not high at all. There is no personal property tax on an RV in Texas. I am sure the recapping of Texas versus Washington intended to show those elements in totality and if you reside in Texas with a residence it is an expensive state (property tax wise). I cannot speak to the Washington situation, do not have sufficient knowledge. I am clarifying only, not trying to be argumentative.

1st line of post. "I have S&B in TX and WA."

Trouble here is that rich people buy elections here!

WA has a sales tax that runs some 9% on vehicles but, as was said earlier their licenses are relatively cheap. Our MH costs us about $170 per year, where as, in 2000, the license on a 2 yr old Santara gas MH was over $2,400! The fees went way down after an initiative.

The kicker now is that if you move into the state they make you pay use tax on an RV going on it's value, and they won't take your contract if it appears to be too low. They also use a "valuation service" rather than a blue book to go by. Naturally the values given by the service are higher than what was actually paid.

Anyway: Please everyone stay away!! Too many people here now, especially in the Seattle area.

I think Escapees has some info on the best areas to domicile.

Joe and Annette...I am full time and call California home. Cost of everything is high here, thanks to the politicians who love to spend other peoples money. But there is more to consider than just money. I can snow ski in the morning and be surfing by sunset. You can be warm in the winter along the coasts and cool in the summer during summer. We have every type of climate and mountains, deserts, beaches and forests. Is it the best state for everyone? Probably not. I am originally from the Evansville Indiana area and old family roots are in Georgia. I hate humidity and love the fall colors in those eastern states. Southern roads are better than western. Fishing is more fun back east ( they can't see you thru the muddy water ). The people are much friendlier in rural areas but the big cities have much to see. So it's not about just saving money. Pick a "place" you want to call home and travel out from there. You will probably change your place a few times but each place will be special. Having said all that...my main reason for keeping California as my residence state is that I use my sons home as my legal address. My DIL sorts all my mail and forwards to where ever we are. Creditors see me as established in the same old area I've been for 35 years. So find your domicile state for your own reasons...You have been threatening to join us full timers for a long time now...Every day planning it, is a day not doing it...

I left upstate NY 12 years ago and settled on South Padre Island - even on the island it was cheaper than NY. Not to mention the beautiful weather - went full time last year and loving it - I will keep my base on the Island - Registration is about $330.00 a year. Love the RGV

Yep, you're right! We were supposed to be in northern Michigan right now! Still trying to get some medical issues worked out but hope to pull out the day after Christmas!
