Last week, spent a few nights at Imperial Dunes BLM dispersed. It’s just west of Arizona line near Winterhaven, CA. Temperatures indicated about 10 degrees warmer than Quartzite. Short drive to the south of Quartzite. Wide open. Very nice.

Update TX vs AZ
My husband and I did find an RV park that suited us, as well as our budget, in Rockport, TX. last winter and thoroughly enjoyed our six month+ stay. This year, however, we found several RV parks in Arizona that suit us better. Thank you all for your valuable input, it was much appreciated.

I stopped in Tucson this winter and enjoyed 3 weeks in the Fairgrounds east edge of town, but it's a bit spendy for a month and they don't have a monthly rate. But a friend had bought property over on the west side of town and after helping install an RV space, and then having my left retina tear, I ended up staying there for several months. Going to the VA hospital for surgery and follow up care. Great VA hospital btw. Most of the RV parks there in town know what they've got there weather wise so the rates, even monthly are pretty steep. The fairgrounds was the only economical weekly rate I could find initially.
But, wanted to say that Tucson is a pretty nice winter town...a bit big and expensive for my tastes, but lots of things to do and places to go. Enjoyed it immensely but doubt I'll stay there all winter again. Do have a friend that lives there though, hmm.

We have spent Jan/Feb in Tucson every year for the past 7 years and LOVE it. It's costly at the Lazy Days KOA in the Winter but we find it worth every dollar. South Texas at that time of year can be very cold, wet, and the air full of mountain cedar pollen.
We make reservations the day we leave in Feb for the next January and many times have slim pickings because so many book the next year far in advance.
Coming from the San Antonio area we find Tucson the perfect blend of culture, food and outdoor activities for our winter trip.

Because we all have our own versions of "cheap" and "costly", if you feel comfortable doing so, please be a bit more specific about the monthly rates you mention. I'm always looking for places to go, but I've been aimed a few times at places that my recommenders called "moderately priced", but they were actually just like the middle-of-the-pack Porsche is moderately priced.

The Lazy Days KOA has various levels of sites. Our deluxe patio site runs just under $2000 for the month. They do have two lower priced kinds of sites but I think during those peak months are just under $1500/ mo.
There maybe a couple of levels above ours, I’m not sure. They have a large part of the campground with high, perhaps 30 - 40 foot high, covers overhead covered in solar panels. I’m not sure but they may charge extra for the covered sites. And a small number of sites have private dog parks for campers in those sites only. A few sites have fireplaces and at least two have outdoor kitchens.
So there are lots of choices. But the park is very large and very full during the winter months.

I did lots of research using a few parameters such as getting a feel of safety, good weather, aesthetics & amenities of rv parks with the best monthly rates. I knew the closer to those desirable places such as Phoenix, Tucson, Casa Grande, Sedona or Yuma, the higher the cost, so I looked just outside those areas. We found Sierra Vista a good fit at $425 monthly plus electricity and in Benson we found a little gem at $525 monthly plus electricity.

There are more reasonable places than the Tucson Fairgrounds.
The very best - if you're an Escapee member - is their park in Benson. Lots of activities, great, friendly people and close enough to Tucson for day trips or doctors. Especially nice to be there during the Christmas holidays - nice meals and fun activities. $365/m full hookup + elect. Very popular park in winter so if you could get there in Oct/Nov if planning to stay Dec/Jan/Feb/March it would be the best time to get a site. Long-term rental of 6m. $375/m. (We had a leased lot there so it's a special place for us.)
Other good parks in Benson - Cochise Terrace $569/m; Butterfield $525/m
Tucson parks: Cactus Country RV $668/m (close to the Fairgrounds)
DeAnza RV in Green Valley, AZ $975/m
