What agency in South Dakota for domicile, mail, etc.

When I Google for info about setting up our domicile etc. in South Dakota, several different agencies come up: Escapees, ChooseSD (South Dakota Residency Center), Dakota Post, Americas Mailbox, so on. I realize they probably are interchangeable, perform pretty much the same services. Any opinions as to which is "better"?

We just change our residency to South Dakota over Memorial week. We decided to use Americas Mailbox. No reason that I remember for the decision, but so far we are happy with them.
Only complaint wife has with Americas Mailbox, was their "campground". She says it was way too expensive and for what you get for the price too much. No shower house, or laundry on grounds.

We used Dakota Post and they have been excellent. Helped us get setup with everything..... Drivers licenses, car titles, auto and MH license plates (they go pick them up and send them to you), voting, and they will send the mail anytime I call to wherever we are at.... Highly recommend them..... Also way cheaper auto insurance in SD.....

YBA, your best address is who we have used for or 5 yeasts oif ful timing and we love them. Not one complaint. When we originally went to sd to establish residency, yba walked us through every step of the process flawlessly and we literally did everything including insurance in just a half of 1 day

we've been full timing since April of this year. We chose Escapees and only because we talked in depth with some other FT's and just went with it. They supplied all the documentation necessary. Went to South Dakota and to the DMV, filled out residency affidavits and done. Transferring over vehicle registration was a little more involved. If there is a loan on your RV, or vehicle for that matter, you need to contact the lien holder and have them send the title to SD. Then you need to prove that you paid tax on the purchase. I have owned my truck outright for 4 yrs and still had to prove that I paid tax on it along with producing the title.

How often do you plan on going to SD?

What time of year are your birthdays?

Americas Mail Box is right next to Rapid City in Box Elder
Escapees has a 'satellite' mail forwarding service in Box Elder
*Main Service is Livingston TX
ChooseSD (South Dakota Residency Center) is in Spearfish
Dakota Post is in Sioux Falls
YBA (your best address) is in Sioux Falls

We started out with Alternative Resources in Sioux Falls
Couple years later we swapped to Americas Mail Box
*just because they are in Rapid City...a location we visited more often the Sioux Falls

ANY of them do a pretty good job in Mail Forwarding...that's their business and they have to do it right as they are 'agent of the USPS' and if they screwed it up to often folks would drop them

We had very little snail mail so it wasn't a major concern...just needed the 'legal address' for registrations, DL's, CCW's, Voting etc
Banking...on-line E-bills

Birthdays are in summer time frame so going back to renew in person was easy

Birthdays in winter time frame.........means having to stay on top and renew as early as possible (if right timing can be outside of the Storms)!

SD is good for FTrs .....
No State Income, Lower registration fees, Insurance, ease of getting 'domicile'/DLs
***If under 65 yrs old could be expensive for Medical Insurance and no Nationwide Coverage

We started with Alternative Resources back in '03 and when the owner retired, we stayed with its replacement, Dakota Post. All of them do the same thing and costs depend on the service you want.
The vehicle registration in SD comes into play depending on what county your service is in as some are cheaper than others

Hello. We'll be FT next year and plan to have SD as Domicile, however our MH purchase (we'll be purchasing a used DP) will be ran through an Montana LLC. No sales tax in Montana so if we wanted to transfer title to SD, how would this work on taxes?

When we transfer our state of residency from Ohio to SD, they checked to see how much we paid in sales tax. We actually had to show where/how much we paid. If more then what their sales tax is required, we were good, we paid way more then their taxes are required.
So, just a guess here, if you do not pay sales tax on the original purchase, I would think you would be required to pay it when you transfer to SD.

Every state is fully aware of this tax dodge and on the lookout for folks attempting to do this. Be prepared for this to not work out well in the long run.

Did some reading on this. South Dakota is a state that doesn't look for this tax avoidance actively. However, since it will be our domicile state, we'll make our purchase and use SD as the tax base. This will still save us on taxes by 50% and no worrying about legality issues. I'd rather give tax money to our "new" home state than to the one I've given 100's of 1000's of $$$ to already.

domicile

I have Dakota post, very happy with them. Any town that does drivers licenses, one can go to, does not have to be your adds town. I spent one night at a small town and did license next day, that town did Tuesdays and Thursdays only. Same thing with redistrations if one is passing by a small town. No need for me to go to Sioux Falls and try and find RV parking.

To add

Redistrations do not go by ones birthday, unless you do it on your birthday, and can be done online and they are sent to po box then can be forwarded to where one is.
Drivers license, again can be done online the second one, and every other one, in any town that does them.

Montana LLC is perfectly legal.... IF you break all ties with your past state.
