I made arrangements for a gun shop near the border to lock up my guns in their safe. This was in WA, and I think now that they would be required to do a background check on me before transferring them back to my possession. Is there someone back "home", where you lived before you became a full time RVer, or a family member, that you trust that you could send them to for safe keeping?

Find an indoor gun range. They usually have lockers to rent by the month. I do this and leave my gun in Yuma before I go to Mexico

Haved visited my parents yearly in BC for 30 years, always left my guns in a gun shop near the border. About 4 years ago, owner said new WA state laws said that you must be a resident of WA state to leave the gun. So now I go to a pawn shop in Bellingham, about $8 in pawn charges for a weeks pawn. Still have to go through the check, but have a Texas CHL, so only takes about 5 min.

Do you spray it on your guns to make them disappear when you cross the border?

Believe bear spray okay but not pepper spray. Rather have pepper spray for humans though.

We had aboard a very tiny container of dog repellant spray used when bike riding. The BP looked it over very carefully but couldn't find in writing that it was for bears. He took it and apologized profusely. It probably cost $1 or so!

After reading all the info provided here and elsewhere....

I will be shipping my two firearms back to Colorado to be cleaned. The gunsmith will ship them to me 4weeks later when I return from Canada .

Thanks to everyone for your help.

Just one other item to be aware of. After receiving my CC license our first trip into Canada was a real 20 questions. Not only were they very concerned about where my firearms were and that they were NOT in the RV, but I was closely questioned about ammunition, empty brass AND about holsters and other carrying equipment. (Guns and all gear were in the safe at home). They also asked me if they were to wipe down surfaces in the RV would they find evidence of the firearms. I answered that I didn't know but assumed they might because I had carried the guns in the RV numerous times. The border agent seemed to be somewhat surprised that I was aware of Canadian laws regarding handguns. She asked me how I felt about the rule and I told her I was upset about not being able to bring my guns to Alaska through Canada, but that it was their law and there was nothing I could do about it but comply. I got a "Have a good trip". We cross at Sweetgrass, MT.

I got similar questions when we crossed there last May. We also got a “Have a good trip” with no inspection.

When we were headed into Canada we stopped in Shelby MT and dropped off our weapons at a hardware store called "Hardware Hanks". They have storage lockers there that you can use for that purpose - we bought a lock from them and left them there for about 3 months and picked them up when we returned.

I'm looking for ideas about what others have done in this situation.

Is there secure place in Washington state where I can leave the weapons and have them shipped to Montana when I return?

Maybe I can ship them to some place or service in Montana and pick them up when I return to the US??

Your help will be greatly appreciated.
