Where did you go?

So, you sold your home, sold all your stuff, and packed what you thought you just "had to have" into the RV, looked over at your co-pilot and went; "Um, where are we going to go?"

We are in the process to purchasing an RV and it got me to thinking. In 2000 we sold our house and all our stuff and headed for Florida to buy a sailboat and sail the oceans blue. We did just that. However, having never even been on a sailboat before we owned one, we spent a year in a marina learning. So this morning I looked over at my dear wife and said, "Where are we going to go!!?"

All joking aside, I thought it might be interesting to hear what some of you did right after taking the key's and pulling out of the lot the very first time.

By the way. we moved that boat to a marina, tied it to the docks, and walked to the closest bar and started drinking!

nah Peto we weren't true sailors we motored most places although we did have our sails up so most people thought we knew what we were doing..........wink

*Southbound along Oregon, NV, CA, AZ where we came off the road

Secondary/Back Roads ---rarely using any Interstates
Longest travel day....385 miles
Shortest travel day.....4 miles
Average travel day.....200 miles (leave at 10am....set up by 3pm)

Shortest stay -----2 nights
Longest stay........2 months at Sisters while she recouped from surgery
Typical length of stay 7/14 days

Our very first drive was from Michigan to New Mexico taking two months to get there with many leisurely stops along the way. We always drive secondary roads to we find lots to explore.

We planned to spend the winter in New Mexico. We soon learned it got cold there. So headed to Arizona for our first winter - moving around and checking out all the areas suitable for winter camping. We fell in love with the West!

Our full timing life style included a master plan to volunteer in each of the lower 48 states for a month or longer. This gives us a feel for what it would be like to actually live in that state and keeps us moving forward to the next adventure. In 6 years, we are 1/2 way to our goal.

I started by visiting people I hadn't seen in a long time, and also looked for free places to stay. On the West side of the Rockies, that is easier than on the East Coast though.

We left Texas in late June, head for Hamilton, Montana to visit friends for 4th of July, then up to Flathead Lake to visit friends, then on to Seattle, to see relatives, down to Centralia Washington to visit family, over to Alpine factory for some renovations, then headed east, spent a week in Rawlins, WY when we had a brake problem, then on to Michigan to visit friends and relatives, down to Ohio for our first Escapade, back into Indiana, then on to North Carolina (friends), on to Myrtle Beach (golf), down to Atlanta (friends) and then turned west and back to Texas for Christmas. 6 months, 11,500 miles and WE WERE EXHAUSTED. Saw all FOUR coasts (Pacific, Great Lakes, Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico), and swore NEVER, EVER, AGAIN.

Dealer's driver drove our MH to UPS Store on Blue Diamond road in Las Vegas so we could sign some papers and avoid CA sales tax (we paid TX sales tax). He unhooked his toad, waved goodbye and there we were with a brand new MH.

Drove it through Las Vegas to Boulder City in rush hour traffic, first time I'd ever driven a MH. A bit frightening but managed to get her done. Spent 6 weeks there settling in on a friend's property. That was about a year ago.

Then we headed to an RV park in Golden Valley, near Kingman, AZ. Two weeks later, we were boondocking near Parker, AZ. Made it all the way up to La Conner, Washington in the past year and now we're back in Parker, same exact spot. Next winter, we'll be in Florida

We first went to a nearby campground and stayed for a couple of weeks just to get to know our travel trailer. Then we set out from Colorado to St. Louis, to northern Indiana. We were visiting relatives at first. Then we headed back out west to Wyoming, Utah, more of Colorado, down to New Mexico and Arizona. Then to North Carolina, South Carolina. Then headed to Florida to snow bird for the 1st winter. In the spring we hit Georgia to visit a cousin, then back out to New Mexico, Colorado again (my husband can't stay away from the mountains! LOL). Then St. Louis and Indiana, more relatives again. Then south to Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia and back to Florida for the winter. In April we will have been full timing for 2 years.
