I'm originally from L.I. and I'm wondering the same thing. There aren't many places there to hide or stealth-camp. The Police will be banging on the door telling him/her to move along. And you can't have an RV parked by your house with someone living in it anywhere on the Island anymore.

You will be burning through a lot of propane in the winter months...alot. See if your friend will allow installation of a large propane tank on-site. This will minimize how often you need refills. Insulate well..use skirting, bay hales whatever you can find. Have a good, working generator. You will need to recharge your batteries every day to keep up, and likely 2x per day at a minimum. Batteries have less capacity in the cold and drain fast. Good luck with everything!

Not only will you be using a lot of propane, but using a generator to keep batteries charged is going to require many hours of running each day. In addition to that, how are you going to fill water tank and empty black and gray tanks? This 'free' spot is going to be quite expensive to outfit it to make it through a Long Island Winter. You should explore extending power to the spot, see if it is more than a reliable generator and fuel. You'll need an in ground septic tank or portable waste tank to haul to someone's sewer.
