12 volt danfoss fridge for boondocking

We pass 4 months a year in AZ,CA desert for winter ,( boondocking )
most of the time in BLM or LTVA territory ,,,,,we are self sufficient with 500 watts solar and 2 way ( 110v & propane fridge ) ....

the fridge starts to act on us ( 20 years old ) we plan to change it for a new one .....( leaking amonia , interior cracked etc...not worth putting $$)

I always hated the fact that the fridge temp fluctuates with the sun on/off the wall or outside temp variation .....

Then there is those 12 volt danfoss type compressor fridge ..
same temps all the time ..... bigger capacity fridge for same measurements
I`m tempted !we`d go for the Nova Kool RFU9000 - 9 cu ft ....

Anyone has one of these or similar ?
opinions , advices apreciated

thanks

Danfoss only makes 12-24v compressors that are installed in other brand refrigerators. With 500W of solar, you should have no problems keeping batteries charged to run a compressor refrigerator. With the compressor being 12v, you eliminate the energy loss in inverting 12v DC to 120v AC. Danfoss was bought by a German company, Secop, but still make the Danfoss compressors in their Danish factory.

The one we are looking at is the Nova Kool RFU 9000....
9 cu ft , at 52" high ,,,,,

I wouldnt go for a 110V fridge on my inverter like i`ve seen some do here !
way too much energy consumption .....

I have been using 12v compressor fridges for years and currently us a Norcold 60 qt. Love the thing. I have a couple friends that did school bus conversions and used RFU6200 built in models. They really like the freedom. Each have a redneck solar and battery setup.

I talked to the Dometic guys at Hershey, and they have a 8cu ft DC compressor fridge out there. They said its actually cheaper then the absorption, and of course has more room, and more consistent temps.

Makes all the sense in the world to me. Its what I'll do when our Absorption fails...

I’ve had my Nova Kool 9000 for over a year now. Best part is it just works. Don’t really notice any extra drain on batteries, after it has cooled down [emoji12][emoji1303][emoji1303]

Billy , do you enjoy the added capacity , is it noticable ?

the fact that it holds more capacity for around same space then my old fridge seems to be a big +

Very much so. I can hold over 2 weeks of food in fridge and freezer. I will by a small fan for the fridge to keep the air moving. I've had frozen lettuce at the bottom, so the fan may help!

The campervan crowd loves the 12v compressor fridges. Engel has a sale going on now.

Looks like it ended over the weekend. Here is the Engel 12v page where sales are displayed when they exist.

Hi
Don't know it you bought the new fridge yet. I bought the rfu9000 about a year ago and kick my but, should have bought it years ago
Uses 5amps running, about 3/4 of time, about 90 amp/hours per day. Good cold beer, lots of room not affected by outside temp
Money well spent
John

I have same fridge rfu9000

3 gr 29 12v batteries,
400 to 600 watts solar....(variable on/off)

Fridge uses 4.7 amps on start ,then 4.2 amps....
Always same temp , lots of space, not to be at perfect level..

And now propane lasts so long lolll
