Hey Wiz, Yes I fired it up and noticed that the meter was not working, what I did wrong was I wired up the negative to the chassis ground. The 12v output has it's own circuit, so back in and re-wired it and presto it now works as designed.
Took me a whole hour to install and $30 bucks.

What is the make and model of the meter and where did you get it?

It looks like it says Nodds Quartz right on it. I added a similar one to the $174 1200 watt 4 stroke generator I got at Walmart online and I'm real happy with it. It has over 200 hours now and runs for almost 10 hours on a gallon and a half of gas.

I think it is actually Hobbs hour meter. You can get them at Grainger supply.

There is always a variety of new and used hour meters on ebay. Here's a photo of mine and a link to hour meters on ebay.
