Boondocking in Big Sur

Hi guys,

I am interested to boondock around big sur.
There is no campground with available spot for 25ft RV for Aug 27th - 29th.

Is SOUTH COAST RIDGE ROAD an option?
What about Los Padres Monterey Ranger District?

I am aware that ppl reserve spots for 6 months in advance...

Any chance someone could please share legal place to boondock?

Thanks

I've never bothered to even check because I doubt any boondocking exists there. I look forward to being corrected.

Heck, there's precious few places of any type to camp there!

There are many areas in Los Padres that are now off-limits due to fire damage -- be sure to check the closures on their website. Good luck!

You could call the ranger district office and ask about dispersed camping. They can let you know if/where it is allowed, what areas are open, and current conditions (road washed out, etc.)

Plus in my experience, if you stop in at the station they will direct you to good locations as they have a vested interest in spreading people out.

Every national forest has a page for dispersed camping. The problem is deciphering their Motor Vehicle Use maps while referencing the list of roads where dispersed camping is allowed. There's usually no rhyme or reason to road numbering. We get the gubmint we deserve, right?
