Boondocking in the PNW
I plan on making the move back up to Washington from Florida early next year due to job. I plan on purchasing an older Class C RV, and the question I have for some of ya. With the sun sitting so low on the horizon with the shorter days, how do some of you guys keep your batteries charged without proper solar or a generator?

Without solar, generator, or electrical hookup you better be carrying lots of fully charged batteries.

I have a log extension cord an find a currant bush. Really you have three maybe four choices. Gen, Solar, RV running, power cord or take the battery to work and charger and use their power.

If you are coming for a job and looking to buy a class C I would think you could just find a park to go into for a spell. Your class C should also have a generator but you may have to run it 3 hours or so a day.
Would think it's very problematic to be boondocking somewhere(?) and getting to and from work. I certainly would explore other options

I'd buy the RV in Florida, not in rainy Washington.... (leak issues).

I live on the north end of Vancouver island bc. Rv has all LED lights, hand water pump, 12 volt DVD TV, furnace has no fan (will be upgrading to Dickinson diesel heater next), propane fridge, and I can go 14 days easy off one old 12 volt house battery with 2 teenagers with electronics charging.
Rv are very poorly power designed...

Thanks for the input. The gig I got going on up there is a contract gig with one of the major companies, and my goal is with my off time is to travel, and same when the contract ends.
I used to live in a RV and I am missing the lifestyle. I've been thinking about becoming more nomadic once the contract ends and possibly travel around.

Just returned from boondocking for 3 weeks at the Oregon coast. Longest spot we stayed at was 8 days. Usually turned on the Genny each morning for a couple hours, made coffee, got the wife up etc, then shut it off. Great trip, headed back for a couple weeks in Oct, then to Moab for a couple weeks. 90% of our nights are spent with nada for hook-ups.

How was the smoke in Oregon? Were heading to Wa. In a few weeks, but last year we had to turn around in Klamouth Falls because of smoke.

Just moved from Seattle to FL in 2016. Depending on where you are working, you won't be able to get an RV in to several places. I know the "Big 3" in WA. If it's Amazon, you won't find a place to park an RV during the day. Boeing, you could park in the outer lots and walk in. Microsoft, well not sure you will fit the RV in any of their lots either. You may want to find a long-term mobile home park and rent a space from them. You could come and go with the RV as you please and keep it plugged in during the day.

Currently boondocking on the rogue river. Plenty of sun for the solar panels. We run the generator occasionally but not to charge batteries. With solar it is all about location. During elk camp in November we are in a hole so the generator gets ran a whole lot more. After elk season were head south.
Lots of great boondocking in Oregon.

No smoke when we were there, sunny and high 60's.
