When in a new area, we park in an rv park for a night, dump & fill and check out the boondocking sites nearby.

Could not agree more! And the roads are repaired after the work is done. Think most of us here in CO a very pro logging of the millions of dying/dead pines

Why don't all of you bark beetle logging road people go find your own thread and leave this one alone? Or get a room.

mbridinger, I am befuddled -- the OP started this thread by asking how one avoids road hazards when towing a trailer onto forest roads. Logging is one of those hazards. I strongly agree with you that threads should stay on topic, but I think we are still right on the topic.

Maybe I am misunderstanding your comment?? Sorry for the confusion.

I am the OP. I did gave up on this thread when it became a logging truck thread.
My question was what do people do when they are hitched up and dont want to drive into an unknow road and get stuck because they cant turn around.

I got good answers, especially the one recently where they suggest spending the 1st night at a know campsite and when unhitched explore the area.
That being said, I did not know that logging trucks were a problem at all. The thought never crossed my mind and it does now.

In your spare time, read some humor fiction by Patrick F. McManus. Grew up in Sandpoint ID.....wrote hunting and fishing stories and many books.

Known for his (tongue in cheek) petitions for banning logging trucks from logging roads.
