Cabela's Boondocking - Bad Experience

2008 Tiffin Phaeton 40' DP towing Equinox
We rarely boondock or stay at a harvest host but have a few times
A few days ago we stayed at the Cabela's in Billing MT
It was set up well for RVs
They had about 30 pull thru spaces on the side of their building
We arrived about 2:00 and were the only RV there
I went inside and touched base, they said I could pull out my slides
I pulled out 2 slides
by 9:00 about 10 more RV arrived, all were very polite
About 9:00 a car parked in the space immediately beside me
a man and woman were in the car, they unloaded everything in their car out onto the parking lot, The guy talked loud and walked up and down the pull thru space waving his arms and loudy raving until about 2am when they left.
I didn't know if he was there to steal the catalytic converter on my coach or car or whatever but it was disconcerting and otherwise spoiled a peaceful nite. I thought about calling the police but figured they didn't need more trouble. I thought about paying him $50 to go away. I didn't expect him to carry on until 2am or I might have taken action earlier.
Sad that Cabelas has an excellent RV parking area but this sort of thing spoils it.
Thoughts?

You should have called the cops after five minutes.

I would of called the cops. In my earlier years I would of said something. On second thought maybe I would talk to him first and feel his response. If he gives me a bad time, II'm calling the police.

Cool

It's part of the risk you take when you boondock . You could be alone for the night ,or get someone like him .

It's good that the obnoxious person(s) left, but the story got me wondering if they packed up all the stuff they removed from the car or left it in the parking lot.

I'm in relatively good shape, I travel armed, and there's no way I'd step outside after midnight to speak to a guy who was raving loudly in the parking lot.

I may be a coward, but cowards live longer.

Person is allowed to rant.....bad day, lousy life situation, what ever

But after 10 minutes of his ranting/raving it's time for 911
Arrived around 9pm by 9:15 I'm dialing free RV site or not.

I'm trying to picture how the phone call might go.
cop: Police department.
camper: Hey, I'm parked in the Cabela's parking lot for the night and there's a guy who pulled up beside me and he's ranting and waving his arms and disturbing us.
cop: Well, you're in a wheeled vehicle; can you move and park elsewhere? ...

Boondocking (out in the boonies) is safer than staying on a parking lot... which this was.

They left a garbage bag of trash in the space when they left

I've run into this same situation in a nice Florida state park. Guy next to us clearly had emotional issues. Built a huge fire, cranked up the boom box and proceeded to rant and rave for most of the night. The police came multiple times and he would tone it down until 10 minutes after they left, then go right back to the bizarre behavior. By morning there was trash strewn all over his campsite and a ranger along with an older gentleman (maybe the guys dad?) showed up. The older guy walked around and picked up trash then paid the ranger and they let the guy stay. It was leaving day for us so we left. I got the impression that the guy was mentally ill and his dad had an agreement with the rangers to let him live there. A bad situation for all involved.

I've heard that because of this kind of behavior and campers leaving trash etc., more and more Bass Pros and Cabelas are not allowing overnighting anymore.
