I've used that strategy, as well. Also, you can purchase disposable "piddle packs" (https://www.amazon.com/Packs%EF%BC%8...4262401&sr=8-2) that work well for liquid capture and disposal.

That's not too difficult and and avoids all use of the holding tank with subsequent winter emptying challenges.

Take care,
Stu

So - it looks like winterizing with RV anti-freeze, and subsequently flushing each time the toilet is used, with more RV anti-freeze from a handy jug, is the way to go. Our black tank holds 25 gallons - and that's usually good for 5 to 7 days of full-time camping. With that said, it's unlikely that the occasional winter trips will require dumping the tank before Spring. As for the need for Thetford (---or other) additives, another post pointed out that freezing temperatures completely eliminated any odors. Therefore, any deodorizing or decomposing chemicals would simply be a waste. I hope that this exercise will be helpful to others.

If you already have the porta-potty use that. It's the simplest solution.
Or, flush with RV antifreeze and wait til spring to dump.
I hadn't thought of the plastic bag idea, but it makes sense as there are latrine bags available for tent campers.
Washups, use handi-wipes disposed of in the trash, and a wash bowl which you can dump in a portable gray tank like an old water jug.
