Yesterday at Costco, there was a shopping cart in the middle of a return island stuffed with garbage bags and cardboard. Maybe wasn't a slob shopper, just a lot cleanup cart!!!! Ha.

Does anybody think setting a good example helps?
Years back a paving company had set up a portable plant. The first day the plant was acting up, couple dozen drivers waiting to load. Some knew each other, but I had never worked with any of them. The guy parked next to me sees me dusting inside, and starts to clean his. I look out, about 4 days of fast food wrappers on the ground between trucks. I did not say a word, but grabbed my trash bag, got out, and picked up the mess, and hobbled across the lot, leaning on my cane more than needed all the way to the trash can and back. I bet there was some talk over the CB, but nobody said anything to me. That was never talked about, but 6 months later, when the moved the plant out there was no trash on the ground...

Hi, well, yes, this is a problem that has been ongoing for generations. Where I am currently boondocking, I have cleaned out 2 sites (mostly broken glass) and my neighbour does a walk in the area picking up trash along the roads. But, how many of you think to do this? ... When I am grocery shopping, the packaging is ridiculous, so I open every single carton and package I can and dispose of it at the grocery store itself. I always bring all my garbage out and dispose of it legally.

Uhmm, trash, by such a long shot a person with even a mediocre intellect could rationally conclude such. And my big motorhome gets 8.5 mpg.

EXACTLY never heard about trash being an issue w/ global warming.

Leave it cleaner than you found it.

I always preached to my kids when we went camping to leave it cleaner than you found it. The whole family would scour the campsite and pick up any and all trash including those nasty cigarette butts. Do smokers feel that since the filters are so little that they are not considered trash?

And dog turds: I think some dog owners feel that the turds are natural and will go back to nature. No! they are not fertilizer, they are just dog turds! I don't want to step in the Poop.....pick them up!

I don't see how anyone that appreciates the outdoors can litter. I just can't fathom it.

I think I might get a sign made and take it with on every camping trip now: LEAVE IT CLEANER THAN YOU FOUND IT

I am so tired of picking up other people's dog's poop, but I know if I don't, I will probably step in it when I come back by, so I pick it up. When we're out away from garbage cans and I don't want to carry it out, I bury it according to LNT practices.

We've noticed a trend where people bag the poop but just leave the bag there as if a ranger will be by to pick it up later. It's like they got the message to bag it but they weren't explicitly told to take it with them and dispose of it properly, so they don't.

Out last spot near Flagstaff had a leather chair, bottles and a white board with a grocery list still on it. We have a Jeep but if we had a pickup, we'd have hauled that off to the dump. But that's likely locals using the forest to dump trash so they don't have to pay.

We pick up trash in plastic grocery bags when we find it. Then we dump it when we get gas, go to the store, etc. It's a losing battle most of the time. It's like the dog poop. Folks must expect someone to come buy and clean up after them like back at home in the city...or they don't because their city is even dirtier.

This is one of my pet peeves with some campers and hunters. We have favorite spots in the West Dessert in Utah, BLM land. Every time we go there, we end up hauling a lot of trash out. Shotgun shells, beer cans, glass, trash, trash and more trash.

Since we started camping in 78, we have always made it a point to clean up the area before we left. Taught the children to do the same, and now my son has his three little ones picking up trash whenever we go out.

I cannot count the number of times my children or grandchildren asked why people litter. I don't have a good clean answer to give them, we just keep picking up the trash.

Damn shame that people can spend big bucks on a fancy new rig, then trash the area they camp in. It really takes some of the beauty of nature away. Makes me wonder what their house looks like!

Given the likelyhood that another person is armed and has been drinking, I would never approach someone and try to talk them into cleaning up after themselves.

I could go one for a couple hours. . . but I won't.
