5th wheel is coming out of shop this week, just had shackles boxed in, and welded 1&1/2" square stock cross braced from shackle to shackle, new brakes, bearings and seals. So now the wife and I are itching to go to Arizona. I read the post below and very good info. Because of medical issues we will only have about 2 weeks total. Leaving on 2/2/18 and have to be back home for upcoming surgery by the 15th. So with that said we're looking for a place that we can get to with our 32' 5th wheel in 2 days drive(long days okay) from the north bay. We may be bringing an ATV, so some nice easy riding like the video posted below would be great. Our German shepherd would love to be able to have a place to swim. Only thing we would need is to drive for water to fill up our water barrel, so should we just pick one of the recommendations in the post below? Or does somebody have another place? Thanks in advance.

I'd recommend Roosevelt Lake if the pup wants to swim. Not exactly boondocking but Cholla national forest campground is very nice - no hookups.

Also, Lake Pleasant has dry camping spots. Alamo Lake might be another option.

This time of year you don't want to go north of the greater Phoenix area.

Quartzsite might be the answer, I should have said in my post. My wife is not crazy about boondocking out in the dessert. She knows me and thinks we will be so far out in the boonies, that she won't feel safe. I've been talking about spending a good amount of time down there in the winters to come. So I don't want to ruin her on the Idea of spending time there in the future. Hookups we don't need or want, we're setup and used to boondocking. adamfolger sounds like big doing's in Quartzsite Jan-Feb. with the Gem show, is it possible to find a private setting?

I'm in Quartzsite now and this is the start of 2 weeks of crazy - the huge RV show is 1/20-1/28. By 2/2 things will calm down, tho.

There are thousands of acres of BLM land here to boondock on. There are 4 LTVAs (long term visitor areas) which cost $40 for 2 weeks. They have access to fresh water, RV dump and dumpsters. Or you can stay in one of the free areas and pay for those services in town. If you are willing to drive across the desert there are places where you can be 1,000’ or more from others. There is no place to hide, tho. No trees and flat terrain means you can see for a mile or more. There's also the Magic Circle, a clothing optional area.

Sounds like Quartzsite area would be our best choice, given the relativity short stay and should make the wife feel better? We have a 40 gallon water barrel I use when boondocking. But If I bring the ATV I won't be able to fill the barrel until I unhook & unload, then I could go and fill the barrel. Our fresh water tank in the RV and our extra barrel of water will carry through 10-14 days easy.
