As I stated in post #2 above, I was going to camp in Apache-Sitgreaves NF 2 months ago at the start of my summer trip to the midwest. But the forest closed that day because of ongoing wildfire problems. So on my way back to Phx last week at the end of my trip, I discovered the NF is open again, so I decided to drop in and see if I could find a boondocking site along the Rim again.
Again, no such luck. This time the forest had 3 consecutive days of rain right before my arrival, so most of those boondocking sites were either under water, or the road to them was impassable from the rain
Talk about extremes! But the forest looks great for late August, and because of the rain the dirt roads weren't as dusty as usual
So I had to drive about 15 miles into the forest and finally found a site that wasn't under water or impassable. I spent a nice 4 nights there before heading home. Here are photos of my pleasantly forested site and my favorite view of the Mogollon Rim:
