Gen Set Invertor Question for RV

We have a 2006 Beaver and do a lot of dry camping at races and ball games. I would like to have a extra gen set as a back up and to keep some hours off mine in the RV. If I get the Champion 3500 invertor will the RV just use the 30 amp plug to plug into the gen set (seems like I had issues one time with the coach inventor when I tried to plug into a small generator)? I would guess it would run one air and a few other things. Thanks Valleydawg

If the gen in fact has an 30 Amp RV plug yes. If it is a 220V plug no. Know what you have before you plug anything in.

Why would you want to run a gas gen to save hours on a diesel? The diesel is good for 100s of hours if not thousands.

I have a champion 3100 inverter generator. Used as backup and sometimes instead of the onboard diesel generator. It has a 30a RV connection, is very quiet, and will run one air conditioner. We usually place it at the rear of the coach so we have less noise inside the living area.

Be sure the champion generator you are buying is the quiet inverter type for RV usage, and not a noisy contractor type. Champion makes both.

We do the same thing you plan to do. Our camper has a 6000 watt on board generator that runs everything, but runs off the on board tank. We purchased 2 honda 2000K units when we had a 5th wheel. Now when we hit the races and just want to charge stuff or watch some TV I run the Honda. It takes a gallon of gas and runs all day. If i need AC then i start the on board. Yes the Honda was a it more, but walking around at Race tracks i noticed 95% of the people had them and many people service them. I was actually concerned with service on the Champion. At this point i think all of them are ok so its really a cost vs quality question.
