Location in Southern Arizona
I want to spend some time next spring in Southern Arizona to do some birding. I want to boondock but need to find a place that can support the weight of a 25,000 pound RV. Has anyone found places that are close to the birds and can support that much weight?
Thanks

There are lot's of places in Southern AZ to boondock, but unless you know or someone else comes along and knows what birds you are looking for and where they are, we probably can't help narrow it down for you.

Google San Pedro River Riparian center in Hereford or Sierra Vista AZ They are quite knowledgeable of the area and it's part of the BLM system.

This is an excellent birding festival in a gorgeous spot. The Dead Horse Ranch State Park is a great place to stay. Reservations a must:

For extreme southern Arizona around Benson, Sierra Vista, Tucson, Patagonia areas, it's best to stay in a RV park. There aren't a lot of boondocking places and I don't know what you mean for 'spring' but it starts getting hot in March/April for having no AC.

The San Pedro House is a very popular spot for birders. Contact info and brochures here We have moved... Friends of the San Pedro River Not sure about boondocking but there is lots of BLM property in the area.
Safe travels.

You could easily get into Sunny Flat campground near Portal, AZ. Probably no better place for birding in the Spring than the Chiricahua Mountains.
Dispersed camping is designated on the MVUM. http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_...eprd494175.pdf
Currently in Tucson, AZ

Sierra Vista had some beautiful spots. We were stationed at Fort Huachuc in the late 90s for WO candidate school.
