Question Places to Boondock near Gettysburg PA

Admiral and I will be traveling to Virginia Beach soon and will be looking for a place to boondock overnight with our 39' coach near Gettysburg, PA. Anyone found a good, safe spot around there? We will be traveling via Rt. 15.

Thank you!

You may find that area is tough to find a freebie (assumed) place to stay. There are several fairly decent CGs in the area but not exactly cheap as this is a prime tourist stop plus a fairly dense population. Walmart is no overnight parking as is nearby York or Carlisle

Thanks for the reply, was wondering about that Walmart as we shopped there once. As we thought about this we decided that perhaps we would try one of the TA branded truck stops, all we need is a place to sleep a few hours and perhaps a hot breakfast in the morning.

It's not that we are being frugal, we love those campsites in that area, but we don't really want to have to go through the entire process in and out.

By the way, I see we are almost neighbors.

Try a smart phone app called "RV Parky" it lists campgrounds, Wal-Marts, rest areas, Cracker Barrels, etc... and shows if they allow overnight parking.

The Wal-Mart in Gettsyburg shows no overnight parking allowed, but a little further south in Maryland it has one that says its OK...

I know this doesn't address your question of a safe, quiet place based on referral, but that app has been helpful for us and at least helps show options.

Good luck on your trip!

The Walmart in Frederick, MD (off of Buckeystown Pike just south of I-70) allows overnights.

Wow thanks for all the wonderful tips. We found a TA which was fine other than a bit noisy due to the parking location but worked out. I'll check the others now. By the way, I started a new thread in technical, having issues with one rooftop heat pump and need assistance. Might be thermostat, not certain.

I almost think this is the one we passed on the way home and saw several campers in there, is it in a plaza?

We are back home now, had a great trip! Thank you for all the input, we are getting more acclimated to the boondocking and it sure is easier than dealing with an RV park when passing through.

This Walmart is in a shopping center across from the Francis Scott Key mall. It is about 3/4 of a mile off of I-270. When we last stopped there, it was over the Christmas holiday weekend and there were a couple of campers and handful of truckers there.

Glad that you had a good trip and are back safe and sound!

Just checked the map, similarly situated but a block or so east of 81, so most likely not the one we spotted.

We need one night boondocking near Gettysburg this coming week. We will get into the area around midnight or after, so we have decided to boondock outside Gettysburg.

Need opinions on these three:
19 miles: Mountainview Truckstop
31 miles: WalMart 2421 Monocacy Rd, Frederick MD
37 miles: WalMart 7400 Guilford Dr, Frederick MD

The next two nights are in a campground.

If you do Boondockers Welcome we are about 1 and 1/4 hour away from Gettysburg. Forever Mow acres. Power water and dump available.
